My decision to let Alonso pass - Massa (Felipe Massa is paid by Ferrai - body language on the podium and the drivers debriefing and what was not said by Felipe Massa implied that it was not his decision to let Alonso pass - Alonso also looked uncomfortable at the debriefing scratching his head)

Ferrari, however, insisted the incident was "a driver decision" and said no instructions were given to their drivers. (They cannot say otherwise and obviously had the governing body believed them they would not have been fined $1000,000 would they?)

Massa, who trailed his team-mate by 31 points prior to the race, was told by his Ferrari race engineer, Rob Smedley, over team radio: "Fernando is faster than you. Can you confirm you understand?" - to which he responded by letting Alonso through on Turn Six moments later.
To all television viewers worldwide this sounded very much like a coded message)

Following the move, Smedley added: "Good lad. Just stick with it now, sorry." (Coded apologies for what the world believes were team orders which Smedley had to give being a loyal employee of Ferrari)

Just because Ferrari effectively asked Massa to let Alonso win, was that necessarily the wrong thing to do?

Formula 1's governing body the FIA, state in Rule 39.1: "Team orders which interfere with a race result are prohibited," and, after a post-race stewards inquiry, Ferrari were issued with a fine .

BBC Sport pundit Eddie Jordan, a former team boss, called for both drivers to be disqualified.

"It was unlawful and was theft," he said. "They stole from us the chance of having a wheel-to-wheel contest between the drivers.

"Ferrari should be ashamed. This was a team order. For me, it is cheating and these two cars should be excluded."

(Eddie an ex team owner - Jordan F1 is probably more qualified than any of us when viewing the incident and was outraged by what happened. I am both an Alonso and Massa fan. Fernando has recently come under observation because he has not liked what has happened to him so far this season - My critical observation is that Felipe is a "Senor" but Fernando is verging towards being a "Senorito". Eddie suggests that both drivers be disqualified. I respectfully suggest that if the authorities had reversed positions teams would learn that they cannot manipulate their drivers)

This season we have seen overtaking manouvres between the 2 Red Bull cars of Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel - the clean competive dicing between the 2 McLarens of Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton. In last weekend´s German incident it was not so obvious as when Rubens Barichello had to let Michael Schumacher pass in the 2002 Austrian Grand Prix but it did look pretty obvious that there were team orders. Had the fight for first and second been like we have seen by the team mates in Red Bull and McLaren as already mentioned then we would not be complaining.

Say I had a friend that had placed a $100 bet on Felipe Massa - he would not be very pleased with either Ferrari or the authorities would he. If if was $1,000.000 wager I am sure that he would be talking to lawyers!

Let the best Ferrari driver win at Hungary this weekend
