Medical breakthrough - cryosurgery to remove lung cancer

A clinic (Santa Elena) La Colina Torremolinos Málaga Spain successfully removed a lung cancer using cryosurgery.

This was the first time that this technique, which isolates the tumor and lowers the temperature to minus 192 degrees, has been used in Europe for a Cancer of the lung. The procedure, which took one hour, was carried out on a 72 year old Italian patient, and represents a breakthrough of incalculable value.

The patient had other health problems which made open surgery unadvisable. He was give a local anaesthesia and the for centimeter cancer was accessed via an incision under the armpit. Argon gas was then pumped into the cancer and the temperature lowered, destroying the cancerous cells.

Just hours later, the patient was able to fly home to Italy.
