#Ukraine - Trash Business: Escalating number of landfills endangers both environment, economy: UKRAINE TODAY

Published on 6 Jun 2016
Three firemen killed in the landslide at a Lviv region junkyard were laid to rest this weekend. The body of the fourth victim, an ecologist is yet to be found. The rescue operation had to be terminated due to the severely dangerous conditions at the Hrybovychi waste site.

The tragic incident certainly brought attention back to the systemic issues within Ukraine's recycling industry. According to ecologists, garbage sorting and recycling is nothing more than a myth to Ukrainians. Nearly all discarded stuff end up at landfills just like the one in Hrybovychi regardless whether it is glass, wood, or paper.

Ukraine does have one garbage recycling plant. Located in Kyiv, the facility that was built in 1986 continues to operate today, continuously converting waste to alternative energy sources.

Are We Seeing The End of Summer Movie-Going? TheStreet - 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,'

Published on 6 Jun 2016
The summer box office season is just about to heat up, or maybe not. Over the weekend, 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows,' which cost Viacom's Paramount Pictures $135 million to produce had a disappointing opening weekend. The film brought in just a little more than $35 million dollars, that's roughly half of what the previous Ninja Turtles film in the franchise brought in on its opening weekend in 2014. Now, while the summer movie season normally picks up around the Fourth of July weekend, early disappointing sales could be a sign that movie-goers are tiring of sequels and remakes.

Volvere (LON:VLE) chief hails great 2015; focused on raising assets per share: ProactiveInvestors Stocktube

Published on 6 Jun 2016
Jonathan Lander, chief executive of investment and turnaround specialist Volvere PLC (LON:VLE) says the company had a “great year” in 2015.

He says the firm focuses on the growth of its assets, rather than the profit and revenue figures adding that “the net assets per share are £5.69, and when we started in 2002 it was about 94p a share, so you’re nearly six times your money.”

He tells Proactive Investors: “2015 was great because we sold JNP which boosted out net assets per share by about 34% that year and you can’t complain about that.”

Volvere saw profits rise in 2015 as the company was boosted by a record performance by pie-maker Shire Foods. Pre-tax profit from continuing operations was £1.34mln, up from £1.2mln the year before, on revenues of £27.9mln more than double the £12.4mln in 2014.

Here’s Why TheStreet Is Watching Shares of Bank of America and Wells Fargo: TheStreet

Published on 6 Jun 2016
As Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen prepares to speak Monday afternoon, Real Money's Fill or Kill Team will be paying close attention to bank stocks, most notably Bank of America and Wells Fargo . Bank stocks have faltered somewhat in recent years as the Federal Reserve has kept interest rates near zero. Low interest rates mean banks can only charge lower rates on their loans. Lower interest rates compress bank's net interest margin, which is the spread between the interest banks earn on their loans and the interest they pay on deposits. Last week's weak jobs data in which only 38,000 jobs were added by U.S. employers in May make a rate-hike seem less likely. For so-called money center banks such as Bank of America, any indication that the Fed will continue to keep rates near zero after its meeting next week, could be interpreted as another blow to the banks.

PCG Entertainment (LON:PCGE) confident of swift resolution on debt issues: ProactiveInvestors Stocktube

Published on 6 Jun 2016
Nick Bryant, chief executive of PCG Entertainment PLC (LON:PCGE), says he doesn’t think the on-going debt disputes will be a major problem for the company.

A supplier to CDPC, its gaming software and games distributor, is pursuing PCG for an unpaid debt of US$2.1mln from before PCG bought the company, and Bryant says it had a written agreement that relieved it of any obligations in connection with the debt.

In addition, CDPC is being withheld US$1.2mln in a separate dispute with a major customer, but Bryant says the firm is “very well covered on this”.

He adds Proactive Investors: “We remain confident that both issues will be resolved within the very near future”.

Despite the debt issues, Bryant remains focused on the company’s expansion in China, noting “we still think there are tremendous opportunities out there and we are going to pursue them with as much determination as we can”.
