Israel is pushing the Middle East towards a full-scale regional war, Lebanon's ambassador to the UK has warned. Rami Mortada told Kay Burley the whole region had become "hostage to Netanyahu's political fate". Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has been accused by opponents of prolonging the war in Gaza and of stoking up a conflict with Hezbollah to strengthen his position domestically and to delay scrutiny of his inability to prevent the 7 October attacks by Hamas. Lebanon was hit by a wave of exploding pagers and walkie-talkies this week, which targeted members of the Shia militant group Hezbollah. Israel is suspected of being behind the operation but has not commented.
