In America, lobby groups, corporations, and billionaires invest millions of dollars to ensure that the ‘right’ candidate wins elections. It affects everything from the selection of local officials to presidential elections and creates countless conflicts of interest, undermining what used to be a model democracy. And it has a serious impact on people’s daily lives. Drug prices are the highest in the world. Tax rates for the wealthy have fallen. Climate change is being denied. The impunity and extent of this are staggering. For many, this is nothing less than “legal corruption”.
Today, America “is just an oligarchy with unlimited political bribery”, said former president Jimmy Carter himself. Rules seem to have been designed to be bypassed; supposedly impartial judges are elected with the help of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of dollars. We follow candidates on the field during the electoral process and hear from people whose lives have been directly affected.

With US support to Ukraine in question, can Europe fill the gap, and how long can Kyiv hold out? The Trump administration has paused military aid to Ukraine, ramping up pressure on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to negotiate peace with Russia.
The move follows a tense Oval Office meeting where Trump and Vice President JD Vance scolded Zelenskyy for lacking gratitude after receiving $180 billion in US aid.

Arab leaders have endorsed an Egyptian plan for the reconstruction of Gaza, countering an Israeli-backed proposal by US President Donald Trump.
The announcement came at an emergency meeting in Cairo.
The five-year plan will cost around 53 billion dollars and, unlike Trump's proposal, enables Palestinians to remain in the strip.
Egypt will ask Muslim nations for their support at a meeting in Saudi Arabia on Friday.

US President Donald Trump has addressed a joint session of Congress six weeks after he returned to the White House.
His record long speech celebrated his decisions, saying that "America is back." Trump hailed his raft of decisions, vowing to take the Panama Canal and have Greenland "one way or another".
He briefly touched upon the issue of Ukraine, but moved on quickly. His first six weeks in office have been marked by controversies at home and abroad.
