#USA #DonaldTrump - NATO's 'Trump whisperer' treads carefully on Greenland and defence • FRANCE 24 English

14 March 2025

He's been dubbed the "Trump whisperer," but NATO chief Mark Rutte struggled to get a word in Thursday as the US president mused about annexing Greenland and criticised allies over defence spending.

The former Dutch prime minister visited the White House seeking to convince a skeptical Donald Trump to maintain US commitment to the transatlantic alliance and to Ukraine.

#Greenland #DonaldTrump - Why the US and Europe are battling for Greenland’s future | Mapped Out: DW News

8 March 2025

Greenland finds itself at the center of a lot of geopolitical attention. US President Donald Trump’s push to control it has sparked tension with NATO ally Denmark and reinforced Europe’s growing wariness that the US is no longer interested in their security.

But why is the world suddenly so interested in this remote island in the far north? And what do the people in Greenland want for their own future?

In recent weeks, Trump has stepped up his rhetoric about the idea of annexing Canada and Greenland. During a news conference at Mar-a-Lago on 7 January, he floated the possibility of bringing these territories into the US. Later that day, he took to Truth Social to post two maps of North America, showing the US and Canada merged into a single country. He also shared a satirical imitation of a New York Post front cover, featuring Trump himself pointing at a map with Canada and Greenland marked with red ‘X’s and relabeled ’51st’ and ‘Our Land,’ respectively.

#Ukraine - Bully diplomacy: Is Trump forcing Ukraine into a peace deal with Russia? | DW News Desk

5 March 2025

With US support to Ukraine in question, can Europe fill the gap, and how long can Kyiv hold out? The Trump administration has paused military aid to Ukraine, ramping up pressure on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to negotiate peace with Russia.

The move follows a tense Oval Office meeting where Trump and Vice President JD Vance scolded Zelenskyy for lacking gratitude after receiving $180 billion in US aid.

Trump insists Ukraine must show a “commitment” to ending the war before funding resumes. Critics see the freeze as political extortion that could embolden Russia. #newsdesk #DonaldTrump #Ukraine

#Australia - Trump bigger threat to world peace than Putin or Xi Jinping | Dr Emma Shortis on Sky News: The Australia Institute

4 March 2025

More Australians consider US President Donald Trump a greater threat to world peace than Vladimir Putin or Xi Jinping. In a poll of 2009 Australians, conducted before the weekend’s disastrous White House event with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, 31% rated Trump the greatest threat to world peace, compared to Russian President Putin (27%) and Chinese President Xi (27%). 15% were unsure. Almost half (49%) said they felt less secure since the election of President Trump. 17% feel more secure. “This is a potentially seismic shift in Australian thinking about America,” said Dr Emma Shortis, Director of the International & Security Affairs Program at The Australia Institute. “One in three Australians now view the leader of our most important security ally as a bigger threat to world peace than the leaders of the world’s two most powerful authoritarian states. “This is not limited to Australia. For example, nearly half of all Danish voters see the United States as a greater threat than North Korea or Iran. “The United States’ traditional allies are looking on with trepidation and sadness. “The collapse of democracy and the rule of law in the United States is in no one’s interests.”

#Ukraine #Russia #DonaldTrump - 'You should've never started it' Trump lashes out at Zelenskyy in Ukraine remarks | DW News

19 February 2025

US Special Envoy to Ukraine Keith Kellogg is expected to arrive in Ukraine by train from Poland on Wednesday morning.

The visit will last three days, according to the Ukrainian news agency Interfax-Ukraine. "As to the trip into Ukraine, the trip is still being finalized, meaning if I'm going there, the answer is yes. Am I going to have an opportunity to meet with the President Zelenskyy? The answer is yes," Interfax-Ukraine quoted Kellogg as saying on Monday.

US President Donald Trump confirmed last week that he would send Kellogg, who is tasked with drawing up a proposal to halt the nearly three-year-long war between Russia and Ukraine, to Kyiv. Trump has lashed out at Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy after he complained about Kyiv's exclusion from talks about Ukraine's future.
