#F1 - Will Alpine succeed as a Mercedes customer? The Inside Line

Alpine confirmed the paddock’s worst kept secret last week, with news it had secured Mercedes power units and gearboxes for F1’s next era from 2026 through to at least 2030. The brutal decision to cut its works status, and redeploy its Viry-Châtillon powerplant workforce was taken to boost performance and reliability, with Mercedes the predicted benchmark.

Alpine may be in rebuild mode, with questions still surrounding its power unit for 2026, whether as a works Renault squad, or Mercedes customer. But, its driver line-up is sorted for 2025, with reserve driver Jack Doohan the first to be promoted from Alpine’s academy to race alongside Grand Prix winner Pierre Gasly.
