#Geely #Lotus #Porsche - Porsche's Nightmare: How Geely Is Using Lotus to Destroy Them: Low Volume Capital and Econ Insight Lab

6 October 2026

Geely is weaponising Lotus against Porsche, and the 2026 numbers show exactly how far it has gone. Lotus deliveries rose 39% in the first half of 2026. Porsche's operating return on sales fell to 0.2%. This is not a story about a British sports car brand being rescued by Chinese money. Geely did not buy Lotus to build a volume rival to Porsche. It bought a hallmark. A badge carrying 78 years of chassis credibility that can validate a Geely architecture, after which the same engineering turns up cheaper under other badges inside the group. Look at what the Lotus Eletre X actually is. Lotus abandoned its all-electric 2028 target, launched a plug-in hybrid under the Focus 2030 strategy, and built it on the same 900V platform as the Zeekr 9X, with a CATL-Geely battery pack and the same 2.0 litre turbocharged engine. China deliveries jumped 60%. Europe fell 17%. The brand that Colin Chapman founded on lightness is now the proving ground for a Chinese group's powertrain. Then there is Hethel. The Hethel Performance Hub opened in 2026 with Zenos, Charge Cars, and DR Automobiles signed up, and Lotus now rents its engineering and its production line to other carmakers. A factory built for 10,000 cars a year that sold 2,000 in 2025 has been turned into a service business. Porsche is on the other side of this trade. China sales have fallen 56% from the 2021 peak. The dealer network is being cut from around 150 stores to roughly 80. Volkswagen took a six-billion-euro impairment on Porsche in September 2026 and cut group guidance to a 1% margin. Porsche spent fifty years selling the idea that performance engineering cannot be bought. Geely bought it and is now renting it out by the hour. #Geely #Lotus #Porsche #AutomotiveIndustry #EVMarket #BusinessStrategy #ElectricVehicles #ChinaEV #CarIndustry

#autos #volvo #lotus - America Could Ban Aston Martin and Lotus — Because of One Chinese Billionaire: The Sleeper List

3 October 2026

A bill moving through Washington would ban any carmaker more than 15% Chinese-owned from selling cars in America. Not just Chinese brands — any carmaker. And one of its sponsors has named two British brands that could be caught: Aston Martin and Lotus. Not because of anything they built. Because of one man. His name is Li Shufu. Most people in Britain have never heard of him. He owns Volvo. He controls Lotus. He owns the company that builds the London black cab. He holds a sixth of Aston Martin. And in 2018 he bought almost a tenth of Mercedes-Benz — around €7.3bn worth — in secret, and nobody knew until the morning he announced it. German law requires disclosure at 3%, 5% and 10%. Li declared at none of them. According to Reuters, banks including Morgan Stanley helped structure the stake in a way that avoided early disclosure. Germany's regulator later ruled he should have declared earlier. The Financial Times asked the question everyone was thinking: was the Chinese state behind it? This video covers who he actually is — a farming family in Zhejiang, photographing tourists, melting down scrap appliances, fridge parts, then building cars in 1998 before the state had licensed him to — and the five completely different ways he took famous car companies: Bought outright from a desperate seller (Volvo, $1.8bn from Ford, less than a third of what Ford paid). Bought out of administration (the London black cab, around £11m in 2013, with the Coventry factory and the designs). Bought the parent company (Lotus, via Proton in 2017). Built in silence (Mercedes). And crept up share by share (Aston Martin, 7.6% to 17%, with a board seat — and the standstill agreement capping it has now expired). Plus Polestar, Zeekr, Lynk & Co, Proton, Renault Korea, Farizon, Smart — and satellites, phones and flying cars beyond that. Covered honestly too: Volvo roughly doubled its sales under him, around £500m went into the black cab, Lotus was dying before he arrived, and nobody forced any of those British and European owners to sell. Does it bother you who owns the car you drive, as long as it's a good car? Or is there a line — and where is it? geely, li shufu, volvo geely, lotus geely, aston martin geely stake, mercedes shareholder, london black cab levc, connected vehicle security act, chinese ownership car brands, polestar us ban, zeekr, lynk and co, proton, smart brand, chinese cars uk, british car industry, car industry ownership, daimler stake 2018, uk car news

#Lotus #LotusEletreX #LotusEmira - Germany Laughed At Lotus For Years — Now China Built It A Hybrid Mercedes and BMW Can't Beat: drive&rpm

29 September 2026

Germany Laughed At Lotus For Years — Now China Built It A Hybrid Mercedes and BMW Can't Beat Lotus was one of the most famous names in motorsport, and for years it was heading straight for the scrapyard. Tiny production numbers, owners coming and going, losses year after year. Germany stopped taking it seriously. Then China stepped in, and everything changed. In this documentary, we follow how Lotus was rebuilt from the ground up. A new high-tech factory in Wuhan. The Evija hypercar with close to two thousand horsepower. The Eletre, an electric hyper SUV that outguns the BMW XM and the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63. The Emeya, a four-door GT built to beat the Mercedes-AMG EQS and the BMW i7 M70. The Emira 420 Sport, the lightest and most powerful Emira ever built. And the game-changer: the Eletre X, with 952 horsepower, more than 1,200 km of range, and full performance even with the battery almost empty. We also look at what comes next: Focus 2030, a new hybrid V8 supercar with more than 1,000 horsepower, new engines from Horse Powertrain replacing Toyota and Mercedes-AMG power, and the transformation of the historic Hethel factory. Is this the moment Lotus finally takes the fight to Mercedes and BMW? #F1 - Lotus Sends SHOCKWAVES with an UNEXPECTED F1 Entry: Slipstream

9 January 2025

The announcement of Cadillac’s Formula 1 entry sent ripples through the sport, symbolizing an American superpower flexing its automotive muscles on the global stage.

It wasn’t just about racing; it was a declaration of ambition—a country with a deep motorsport history stepping into F1 to prove it could go wheel-to-wheel with the best.

Cadillac’s arrival, supported by General Motors, showed that this wasn’t just an experiment—it was a full-fledged campaign to rewrite F1's status quo.

As the 11th team on the grid, Cadillac’s inclusion is a pivotal moment for Formula 1, signaling a new era of American influence. It’s the culmination of years of groundwork aimed at expanding the sport’s footprint in the U.S., a country that has long been a sleeping giant in F1’s global strategy #formula1 #f1 #f1news #f1highlights #f12025
