Singapore court holds British writer guilty of contempt British writer Alan Shadrake has been found guilty of contempt of court for criticising Singapore's judiciary in a book on the city-state's use of the death penalty and faces a possible prison sentence. High Court judge Quentin Loh said Mr Shadrake, 75, was "guilty of the offence of contempt by scandalising the court." He said the author would be given the opportunity to make amends for his comments in the book, "Once a Jolly Hangman: Singapore Justice in the Dock", but did not say if this would affect sentencing. In his written judgment, Mr Justice Loh said Mr Shadrake had used a "selective background of truths and half-truths, and sometimes outright falsehoods" in his book, which he said accused Singapore judges of being influenced by executive and diplomatic pressure.
