The victorious general Julius Caesar is compelled to visit Egypt to avert a civil war sparked by the lack of understanding between Cleopatra and her brother Ptolemy, who share power in the country. Captivated by the young woman's intelligence and beauty, Caesar proclaims her the undisputed queen of Egypt and, following the birth of their son Caesarion, makes her his wife.
