#afd #musk #trump - "Musk and Trump need each other" -- interview with Kara Swisher | DW News

8 January 2025

Kara Swisher, one of the most influential tech journalists in the US, told DW's bureau chief Ines Pohl that Elon Musk is supporting Germany's AfD to cause problems. "He is supporting this particular party to cause problems. He has issues with regulatory matters concerning European leaders, and he will do it over and over again across the world as he sees fit."

"Any country that has the audacity to say that it wants to protect its consumers will be under siege. Europeans have been much more stringent in holding accountable US tech companies. But that's why they're coming to attack you now."

She says that the core interest of the tech billionaires is that they do not want any regulator to tell them what to do or what to sell in any way whatsoever. Regarding the threats of the Trump administration towards journalists, she said: "We can't be cowed by these bullies.

They certainly have a lot of power and influence on their side. But, you know, they've tried before; they can try again. We are going to have to fight them everywhere we can and understand that the independent press is critical to the operation of democracy.

Asked about whether Trump will be able to accept the popularity of Elon Musk and be willing to share the stage, she said: "I just don't know if either of them can afford to do that; they sort of need each other in terms of power and influence."

#USA #immigration #deportation - What Trump’s Mass Deportation Plan Means For The U.S. Economy: CNBC

11 January 2025

According to the latest estimates, approximately 11.7 million undocumented immigrants currently reside in the United States, which amounts to roughly 3.5% of the total U.S. population.

The United States has more international migrants than any other country in the world, surpassing the total of the next four countries combined. But in recent years, the United States has not deported more than half a million immigrants with a formal removal order in a single fiscal year.

If President Trump follows through on his promise of deporting all undocumented immigrants over his four-year term, the country could see a deportation operation on an unprecedented scale.

So how exactly will the mass deportation be carried out? And what impact will it have on the U.S. economy?

#autos #ev - Kenyans Are Turning Old Car Models into EVs with Chinese Tech: The China-Global South Project (CGSP)

8 January 2025

Chinese car brands are making inroads into the African market, slowly building their customer base in countries where second-hand vehicles control a large segment of the transport sector. But in the classic car sector, EV tech from these same Chinese brands is driving innovation as drivers seek to shift from internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles to renewable energy ones. Although buying a new Chinese EV may be out of reach for many Kenyans, this has not limited innovations offering solutions to help them transition from expensive ICE vehicles. An electrical engineer driven by passion, Joe Gakuru works on vehicles with various Chinese EV components, including batteries. His early tinkering with electronics and batteries has led him on a path that laid the foundation for the establishment of Qtron Industries transforming it from a modest e-waste recycling company into a trailblazer in e-mobility and energy solutions.

Self-taught in reverse engineering, he combined this knowledge with his deep love for green energy and innovation, paving the way for his journey into the EV and energy storage sectors. At Qtron, Gakuru and his team also repair and build batteries and retrofit ICE vehicles and motorbikes into EVs.
