Gori Georgia - BBC reports Russians are still here

Is Mr Putin really in charge of what is going on? The BBC report that Russian forces are occupying Gori and that there is firing, explosions and tank movement around the town. Has Russia the right to destroy Georgian military property on Georgian territory. This could leave the border open to attack by South Ossetian militia (CET1408)

Russia v Georgia - the bottom line - did South Ossetian militia start the hostilities?

I think that this is the most important question especially in view of the South Ossetian militia looting, robbery and murder in and around Gori which the Russian troops did not appear to stop! I saw a television clip on telivisionshowing this militia firing into Georgia on the 7 August so tried to find out more and found this article on Russian Today

Georgia and South Ossetia exchange fire

Georgia and South Ossetia exchange fire

An official from Russia’s Foreign Ministry has arrived in Tbilisi in an effort to bring Georgia and its breakaway republic of South Ossetia to the negotiating table. It follows a night of violence in which both sides exchanged fire. South Ossetia says several people have been injured after Georgia launched artillery attacks on two villages.

The number of casualties has yet to be confirmed.

There's been shelling and skirmishes almost every day since Friday when six people were killed.

Both South Ossetia and Georgia blame each other for provoking the military action.

The leader of the self-proclaimed republic of South Ossetia, Eduard Kokoity, said the situation is “very serious”.

”Georgia has tried to build a fortified structure, a block post near the Nuli village. Our reaction to such actions will be very tough because we see them as bandits who open fire on our civilians,” he said.

“Russia is putting in a great deal of effort to promote the idea of peace talks. We treat such initiatives with understanding and believe they are necessary."

But the South Ossetian leader ruled out direct negotiations with Georgia, saying “we insist on the talks including Russia and North Ossetia. We will not hold one-to-one discussions with Georgia,” Kokoity said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry says urgent action is needed. Deputy spokesman Boris Malakhov said Russia “is acting as a constructive and responsible mediator, the aim of which is to diminish the tensions, to restart the negotiating process aimed at settling of the conflict”.

Earlier on Wednesday Tbilisi denied firing at South Ossetia, claiming the violence is designed to wrongly portray Georgia as being aggressive.

The South Ossetian president says he has information that Georgia is planning a large-scale intervention starting in September. Kokoity has ordered around 500 reservists to be called in to swell the ranks of the South Ossetian police force.

He also says a number of volunteers from Russia have said they’re ready to help if Georgia attacks.

“We have an influx of volunteers coming into the republic. So far we see no necessity for them. But those who are arriving are being organised into army units. These units will be under the command of our Defence Ministry,” Kokoity said.

Since the beginning of August, the situation in the conflict zone has intensified.

Around three thousand people have been evacuated from their homes following last week's artillery exchanges. Six people were killed and thirteen injured in sniper and mortar fire between the two sides.

South Ossetia declared independence after the Soviet Union collapsed in the 90s. Georgia rejected the move, saying the region is part of its territory. The resulting armed conflict killed thousands and forced many to leave their homes.

Since the end of the conflict relations have remained tense.

the World´s eyes are on Russia!

Last saturday on Spanish News I heard that the Spanish police had arrested 100 Russian Mafia members that had brought 10,000 girls to the country under the pretext of working as nannies but had ended up working in 26 brothels - "Club Americanas" o "Puti Clubs". They had also been money laundering the proceeds of these. Trying to research this I came across this article

Litvinenko dio pistas de mafiosos rusos en España (Published in El Pais)

(translation below)

Alexander Litvinenko, a former lieutenant colonel in the Russian secret services, paid a final tribute to the Spanish police. Six months before he died poisoned by a dose of polonium 210, contacted Spanish police and the event took place, shortly thereafter, in a European city. Litvinenko had been characterized by criticizing the methods used by Putin to gain power and his death provoked a genuine international scandal. Six months before that, explained to the Spanish investigators what role played some businessmen involved with the Russian mafia. Some of them lived in Spain. From this interview and an intelligence report from the Civil Guard, the Spanish Anti-Corruption Prosecution could run the biggest operation so far against taking the Russian mafia in Europe.

By order of the State Prosecutor's Office the case was awarded to three prosecutors

The Russians en route from Spain hundreds of dirty business in Europe

The Russian mafia entertainment to Abramovich in his visits with Chelsea

The roles of the operation were Avispa months without review

Spring 2006. Three dates and three different scenarios. Three parts that two years later would serve to assemble an impressive puzzle. May 3 in Palma de Mallorca: the Civil Guard deposited in the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor a report on the presence in Spain of important members of a Russian criminal organization based in St. Petersburg and called Tambovskaya. May 10 in Jumeirah, a coastal city located 35 kilometers from Dubai (United Arab Emirates): Spanish police involved in the arrest of Zakho Kalashov, aka Sacred, aka the invisible, a leading Mafia boss of Kurdish origin and sought by Spanish authorities . To achieve his arrest was accurate intervention by the highest authorities of the Spanish State. A few days later in a European capital: some Spanish police interview with Litvinenko for information.

The arrest of Kalashov was in itself enough headaches to someone in the head office of the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor, could give due attention to the other two events. The arrest of Kalashov offset some of the frustrations that researchers specializing in Russian mafia had taken over the recent past. They knew that from detention, would begin to move some tentacles around the prosecution's case and the judge, Fernando Andreu.

It was not a novelty. It happened during Operation Red Marble and after the first phase of the operation Avispa: leaks from within that allowed some defendants will escape before being arrested, pressures from embassies, political Spaniards touched by the organization, calls lawyers major threats death or substitutions in the prosecution that led to the release of some detainees.

Kalashov was a heavyweight and the pressure it would soon arrive at the Audiencia Nacional. They knew that Kalashov lieutenants of seeking friendships between the judge Andreu. It was his usual manner of proceeding, their language of choice, extortion, bribery, influence the search.

After the summer, with Kalashov isolated in prison security Soto del Real (Madrid) some movements within the Anti-Corruption Prosecution led to the establishment of a strategy to give a more accurate third blow to the Russian mafia in Spain. An order of the Attorney-General's Department authorized exceptionally that three prosecutors (Jose Grinda in Madrid, Juan Carrau in Palma de Mallorca and David Martinez Madero in Barcelona) coordinate an investigation following a report prepared by the Civil Guard in Spain. But it would not be a case of the Civil Guard. Prosecutors met in Madrid to heads of various departments: Udyco (organized crime) and UDEF (laundering) of Police; UCO (organized crime) of the Civil Guard, Customs Surveillance (Inland Revenue), SEPBLAC (Bank of Spain) and Unity Central Criminal Intelligence (Interior). All should support research. By coincidence, one of these departments had opened proceedings in the court number 5 of the Audiencia Nacional. Conclusion: Garzon would be the examining magistrate. Thus was born the operation Troika.

Was relevant information provided by Litvinenko? The former Russian agent gave few clues about the importance some heads mafia and what kind of relations could maintain high levels of the Russian state. The Spanish investigators lacked sufficient information to make every head in place inside the complex tangle of societies Russian criminals. Despite the fact that there is already an abundant literature on the subject, only field research focus allows what is the real significance of each head and how are your relations with other organizations. Because if anything distinguishes the Russian mafia gangs is its constant evolution, their complicated partnerships, changes in their side and, of course, its wars.

Litvinenko had a good understanding of how some characters appeared on the scene. Litvinenko worked as a lieutenant colonel in the URPO (Directorate of Development and Eradication of activity of criminal organizations). Therefore, knew very closely the activities of characters as Tariel Oniani, Zhakar Kalashov, Vitali Izguilov and Tiourin, among others. Oniani and Kalashov participated in the early nineties in many kidnappings and murders during the privatizations. "There were many deaths of people who refused to sell shares," said Litvinenko. And both Oniani as Kalashov participated in coordinated actions with some departments of the security of Russia. In fact, Kalashov, according to Litvinenko, he used to put pressure on Turkey because of their Kurdish origin.

The list of persons who reported that Litvinenko had reached characters based in Spain. It was the case Oniani, Kalashov, Izguilov and Tiourin. They were part of the wave of Russian citizens found in Spain a good place to take refuge on a seasonal basis. Over the years, some of them had chosen Spain as their habitual residence, as a place where they could launder a portion of their profits, and the centre from where they directed all its businesses. The information provided Litvinenko also some facts about Roman Abramovich, Chelsea's current president and owner of major oil interests in Russia.

Curiously, the interests of some of these characters, if Oniani, Izguilov and Abramovich himself, cross his passion for football, a sport that is not alien. The Spanish researchers have evidence of how some of the Russians based in Spain competing in the organization to Abramovich a good reception during his stay in Spain during Chelsea's game in the Champions League. Chelsea has played recently in Spain against Barcelona and Valencia. And it was quoted in Barcelona which caused more tension when it comes to entertaining the tycoon based in London. Moreover, research also suggests that among the Troika charged by the operation, there is interest in the best Russian team of the moment, Zenit St. Petersburg, recent winner of the Uefa Cup and the club militating with much larger salaries of members of the Russian selection just semifinalist in the Euro. Among the extraordinary volume of economic interests shared by the accused that occupy their talks, one of them was football.

Litvinenko provided information on Oniani, Kalashov and Izguilov. The three resided in Spain or, as is the case with Kalashov, spent a few seasons. The three were the main objective of the operation when Avispa took place in June 2005. Above all, Oniani, whose role at that time was quite important in the criminal hierarchy. And if Oniani was the number one objective of that operation, it turned out that Oniani was drained at the last minute. That operation was sold as a successful police and somehow it was, but what was not said then was that there was some failure. A chivatazo gave to tear up his arrest. Three years later, still waiting to be found responsible. Fugees Oniani, also disappeared Kalashov, Izguilov ended up being arrested for the largest stem from that operation. Despite everything, was not too long in jail and received probation. Since then he has lived between Alicante and Marbella. Curiously, despite its status as a defendant, his power was increasing.

The three prosecutors in charge of the case began to add up all the available information on dozens of Russian citizens and their activities in Spain and outside Spain. They had already proven experience occurred on attempts to gain influence in our country. Some efforts not ceased to be somewhat naive, as happened around Kalashov after his arrest. His defense was assigned three lawyers, one Russian, one Swiss and a third Spanish. As a lawyer was elected the former Spanish judge Javier Gomez de Liaño, in confidence (as well as assert interventions telephone time) that their past condition judge of the Audiencia Nacional allowed some preferential treatment. It has not been the case in the light of the experience: Kalashov has suffered three shipments of jail.

The volume of accumulated information is so great as to make it necessary to have a special chamber for consideration. During the investigation of the case, they discovered a surprising fact: much of the information obtained in the records of the operation Avispa had remained unstudied inside boxes of documentation. That negligence led to some conflict and was remedied.

The information obtained is very complex because it affects a huge number of commercial and noncommercial operations that the mafia made in many countries. The voracity of their business knows no bounds and the same negotiating the purchase of properties in Germany, economic transactions with Switzerland and Cyprus, as imports (not to say smuggling) of cement to Sweden. Clearly the center of their economic activities was in Russia and the countries that were part of the USSR (Ukraine and Georgia, among others) and the Czech Republic, but appears in all the common denominator of bribery and extortion. The payment of commissions for any reason is almost daily. In this context comes to light the names of many people who hold positions in the Administration.

Another common denominator is how the characters are still carefully investigated the vicissitudes of Russian policy and how each appoint a senior official in whichever department of any region or country can not affect their interests. The information obtained is also very precise in everything related to "trade wars" between the organizations. Throughout the investigation are numerous reports of accidental deaths and threats. Such information affecting largely to certain institutions in Russia, but also those of other countries, for Greece, Israel and Germany. Baltasar Garzon and prosecutors who have coordinated investigations expect the visit to this next week's deputy prosecutor general of Russia, to determine if it can establish cooperation between the two countries. The real purpose of the operation Troika will take time to know each other.

Russian warplane attacks unarmed BBC Television crew

Georgia - this evening a trigger happy Russian pilot attacking Gorgi in Georgia wheeled away from the town and and attempted to attack a BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) television crew on the border, to the best of our knowledge on the Georgian side. A little discipline Mr Putin is called for. Court Martial this pilot.

Oh their excuse is that they are protecting Russian citizens - perhaps they will next start to offer Russian passports to American citizens so that they can have the pretext of attacking the USA!

Interesting comments!

Who does Islington Council (London England) think it is?

I am pleased that this lady won her case but why should she have been put through this ordeal by her employer Islington Council?

A Christian registrar who was threatened with the sack because of her religious beliefs on same sex unions has succeeded in her claims of unlawful discrimination by Islington Council.

In its unanimous judgment, the employment tribunal found that Lillian Ladele was directly discriminated against by the council after she asked to be allowed not to perform civil partnership registrations.

Islington Council cared too much about the rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual community, the panel ruled.

It showed 'no respect' for Miss Ladele's rights as an orthodox Christian and gave her an ultimatum to choose between her beliefs and her £31,000-a-year job, which she held for nearly 16 years.

The Central London tribunal's landmark ruling that employees cannot be required to act against their consciences has implications for the 18,000 same-sex ceremonies conducted nationwide each year.

Council chiefs had insisted it would give the wrong message if Miss Ladele was exempted.

But the tribunal accepted the claims that Islington Council had been able to deliver a "first-class" service to homosexual couples seeking civil partnerships, without Miss Ladele's involvement.

The judgment found that the council "disregarded and displayed no respect for Ms Ladele's genuinely held religious belief," and it created an "intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment for her on grounds of her religion on belief."

In coming to their conclusion, the tribunal said, "It is an important case which may have a wider impact than the dispute between the parties."

Speaking after the case, Miss Ladele said: "I am delighted at this decision. It is a victory for religious liberty, not just for myself but for others in a similar position to mine.

"Gay rights should not be used as an excuse to bully and harass people over their religious beliefs."

Councillor John Gilbert, Islington Council's Executive Member for Human Resources, said: "We're clearly disappointed with the result, as we consider our approach was the right one.

"We are now considering the judgment carefully in order to decide whether we should appeal.

"On first reading, the Tribunal seems to have based its findings primarily on the fact that we could have continued to provide civil partnerships without Ms Ladele.

"The wider issue of whether councils should be able to expect employees to carry out civil partnerships doesn't seem to have been fully addressed.

"In our view this is a crucial question that has much wider implications for local authorities and employers.

"We'd like to assure staff and service users that our commitment to services and equalities won't be affected."

And we thought this accolade belonged to the Americans:-))

British households are now more indebted than those of any other major country in recorded history; families in the United Kingdom now owe a record 173 percent of their incomes in debts, according to Office for National Statistics - Saturday Telegraph.

There have been 17 youth stabbings in London and 31 in England to date. Are the parents really the ones that should accept the blame. Maybe if they spent less time getting into debt, they would have more time to care for their children.

and the night before last "Raising Helen" with another of my favorite Actresses Kate Hudson

Trailer

Helen Harris (Kate Hudson) is living the high life in New York City and working for a top-modeling agency, when her sister and brother-in-law die in an auto accident. Her good times are over when she gets a letter from her sister's attorney. Helen has been given custody of her sister's three children. Helen has never raised any children, and she thinks her older sister, Jenny (Joan Cusack) is better qualified to raise the children. Helen accepts the custody of the three children, and they move to a new apartment in Queens. Helen loved staying out late and going to nightclubs, but she now has to take care of the children. Helen is forced to change her lifestyle and become a real mom, which in turn gets her fired from her glamorous job. In the end, Helen learns what is really important in life.

Well I did not fall asleep during the screening of this one so must have enjoyed it! Did you?

Enough - watched this movie tonight - "but then I am a J Lo fan:)

An abused woman (Lopez) discovers that the dream man (Campbell) she married isn't who she thought he was. She and her daughter try to escape (aided by her previous boyfriend, played by Futterman), but he pursues her relentlessly. Fearing also for the safety of her daughter, she decides that there's only one way out of the marriage: kill him. Fred Ward has a guest-starring role. Trailer

People seem to like to "knock" J.Lo but this movie did not send me to sleep so in my opinion it was good:) Would you like to express your opinion?

I believe in fidelity. Do you? Cheat Proof Your Relationship

Faithfulness in a nutshell

Source: California Psychics

You would think that a healthy and mutually satisfying relationship would leave little reason for either party to seek satisfaction elsewhere, right? Yet when it comes to infidelity, reason is not what's actually at play.

It's true, you can be attracted to someone else, even when your marriage or relationship is a good one. In fact, most people don't set out to have an affair. Even so, affairs happen all the time but is there any rhyme or reason as to why they happen? Is it possible to cheat proof your relationship? While there's no guarantee, you can take steps to protect your relationship from infidelity. Here's how...

Open your eyes
Looking into the past right from the beginning of your relationship will give you the best start. First, consider whether the person you are dating has a history of monogamy - or not. While everyone may deserve a second chance, dating someone with a history of cheating might mean you are setting yourself up for hurt and disappointment from the get-go.

If you find it difficult to broach the topic, simply ask about your potential lover's last relationship. If they don't feel comfortable talking about it, this might be an indication that they have something to hide. Conversely, you may discover that while they were true, a past partner wasn't. While we wouldn't wish this on anyone, your partner's experience of being cheated on might just work in your favor. Since your partner knows how hurtful it can be, they'll be less likely to inflict a similar hurt on you. Finding someone with a solid monogamous history doesn't guarantee fidelity, but it certainly increases the chances!

Work it

Keep innocent friendships or work relationships in check. Simply, don't let them cross any boundaries. Congratulatory hugs and pecks on the cheek, "professional bonding" activities like lunch dates and after work cocktails - these are all situations that can lead to attachments that are more than just professional or familiar. Emotional unfaithfulness occurs when a person develops a strong emotional bond with someone outside their primary relationship. This new relationship may be platonic, but it is just as dangerous as adultery. A person is being emotionally unfaithful when they seek comfort in another, while keeping secrets from the person in their main relationship.

Just friends
While everyone needs to open up to make new friends and develop good relationships, there are ways to do it that don't involve the kind of emotional sharing that one is supposed to have with one's partner. Ways to avoid emotional unfaithfulness include keeping professional relationships professional. For instance, if you go out to lunch with a colleague, invite a third party. Avoid physical contact with the other person and don't share the intimate details of your life.

If you sincerely feel attracted to the other person and enjoy conversing with them more than with your spouse or partner, admit it and then steer clear of the temptation by steering clear of the person. It's how we behave in tempting situations that opens or shuts the door on cheating. A couple's responsibility to one another is knowing where and when to set boundaries with other people.

Stay tuned
The best way to avoid an affair is to stay close, open and intimate with your partner. In a world of temptation, it's important to keep the boundaries clear. It's just as important to keep the lines of communication, love, intimacy and adventure open with your partner. Instead of keeping secrets, talk with each other about your experiences. It's only through openness that your relationship will flourish and you will remain bullet-proof against indiscretion.

Is temptation knocking too loudly on your door? Our gifted psychics can help. Call 1.800.573.4830 or click here now.

The Science of Flirting

Source: California Psychics

Flirting is the most natural and baffling process of human interaction. It may seem like an art, but it's a real science. Research on flirting shows that long lasting couples can actually have an astounding number of similarities that could never be chosen from an online dating profile - similar lung volumes, metabolic rates, wrist circumference and get this… ear lobe length! So how can a pick-up line turn into matching earlobes, you ask? It turns out the process of flirting is a complicated dance of biological checkpoints to help you find a mate with the DNA that you feel most at home with. Even though flirting feels like it may only be a self-esteem boost in the vegetable aisle or attention at a party, it's actually an evolutionary process of mate selection.

There is no playing fair in survival of the fittest. Everyone's experienced the baffling feeling of meeting someone who is "good on paper" but the zing just isn't there. That's Mother Nature insuring that we continue on! So, here's a scientific look at the more serious side of flirting.

Scan it!
Men enter a social situation and scan the area looking for potential mates. They generally give the same amount of eye contact to each woman, enough time to assess physical beauty and to see if their searching look returns any glances. For woman, scanning is out! Women are pickier, glancing around for fractions of a second looking to see who's available without committing to one suitor.

But once a woman makes a choice, her stare, even for just ten seconds, tells the male to "come hither." Though men cast a wide net, they want to think that the person who is staring at them is selective. So if a woman looks everywhere, meeting many glances, the male's interest declines. Yup, it's pretty lopsided, but proliferation of the species is about securing the mate, not political correctness.

Subliminal messages
Body language is the key, the lock and the door to flirting. It's more than half the reason that people make that love connection. Women express their interest by revealing their neck and underside of their wrist. By tilting the head or flipping back their hair they are showing a man that he can come closer. When they do move in exchanging pheromones is crucial. Our immune systems are seeking out compatible systems to exchange the really important stuff - DNA. And each one of us tells others of our inner bacterial worlds through smell. After that on the list of physical checkpoints is tone of voice - which far supersedes witty banter, according to research.

Mirror, mirror on the wall
Regardless of who's considered hot in your social set, guess who we pick for the long haul? People who look just like us! The person who has that elusive familial feeling generally does look like family. So, though the supermodels may have the advantage during the initial scan of the room, the lasting bond will likely be with someone who doesn't look out of place in a family portrait. Even when people are shown pictures of strangers and asked to select the person they would want to take on a date, they consistently pick people who look like they do! And now here's the Freudian bit - on even closer examination, people have a particular preference for people who look like their parents. So women want men who look like dad and men want women who look like mom.

Do the math
Ever lamented that you have a big nose? Well, it turns out that the size of your nose matters little, but whether your eyes are in proportion to your nose matters a lot! Men have a strong preference for symmetry in the face while women are more forgiving if some features don't quite add up. And moving further into the science of proportions and mating, it's not what you weigh, but instead, it's a hip to waist ratio of 7 (divide waist by hip measurements) that attracts men. As women get older and become less fertile the waist area tends to fill in.

Now that you know the science behind the art, use it to your advantage. Remember, don't sweat the small stuff, just play up your assets and let biology take its course.

European Song Contest - Was it Political or was it the song?

For me the winner was Ani Lorack. Soon after the results of the Eurovision Song Contest were in, many people started to ask how the results would have been if only the countries that took part in the final had voted. The top two would still have been the same but we can seem some significant changes in the lower positions. The gap between Russia and the Ukraine being only 5 points. The introduction of the Russian singer was good but overall I think that Ani Lorack´s was better. Russia do punish the Ukraine from time to time like Gazprom cutting off the gas etc., You will have noted that if you had watched the show that it was former Eastern bloc countries that voted for Russia. It was also interesting to note that the Russian song was sung in English.

Watched the movie "White Noise" last night - fact or fiction?

In common with my viewing last night the principal character John dies as did Julia in Y tu Mamá tambien. Also I did not fall asleep watching either movie:)

The title 'White Noise' refers to the phenomenon known as Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP). People believe that you can hear voices of the dead in the white noise of a detuned radio and even see faces from the white noise on the television set. Michael Keaton stars in this thriller as Jonathan Rivers, a man who had just lost his wife in a freak accident. Raymond Price (Ian McNeice) meets with Jonathan and tells him that his wife Anna has contacted him from the other side. Jonathan doesn't believe him until he hears Anna's voice on his radio. Jonathan wants to talk to his wife, and he gets all the equipment. There is only one thing that Jonathan doesn't know, there are also bad people on the other side.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (fiction)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (fact)

White noise is a random signal (or process) with a flat power spectral density. In other words, the signal's power spectral density has equal power in any band, at any centre frequency, having a given bandwidth. White noise is considered analogous to white light which contains all frequencies.

An infinite-bandwidth, white noise signal is purely a theoretical construction. By having power at all frequencies, the total power of such a signal is infinite. In practice, a signal can be "white" with a flat spectrum over a defined frequency band. .......

Being interested in the para normal this could justify further investigation!

Watched Y tu mamá también last night - What did other views think of this Mexican Movie?

I am fluent in Spanish but this version did have subtitles which helped with some of the Mexican dialogue but if you want to know more about it in English go here
