In a referendum put forward by a trade union over 67 per cent said no to the initiative.
The reason being that most people thought it would hurt competativeness and threaten jobs.

The U.S. Army soldier suspected of killing 16 civilians in Afghanistan is from Joint Base Lewis McChord in Washington state. The military's Stars and Stripes Newspaper called it "the most troubled base in the military" in 2010. (March 12)

Venizelos now looks certain to become leader in an internal ballot on March 18, replacing former prime minister George Papandreou..

However, winning the next parliamentary election  will be far harder with PASOK currently behind the conservatives in the polls.

Britain - Catholic Church in UK attacks gay marriage

Worshippers were asked to reflect on the true meaning of marriage and not to condone government plans to change the legal definition of the institution, paving the way for same sex unions
