عدم الاستقرار في سوريا يتحدى التقديرات لعدد لا تزال تقف وراء الرئيس بشار الأسد، ولكن هذا كان دليلا عطلة نهاية الاسبوع من مؤيديه. فإن العلويين أقلية قوية يكون من بينها -- مع كبار القادة العسكريين ومواقف الاستخبارات في أيديهم -- الأسد رئيسهم -- وأجزاء أساسية من الطبقة الوسطى في سورية. ولكنه زاد تعليق بلادهم من قبل جامعة الدول العربية من عزلتها.
