This adaptation of Jean Genet's "The Maids" was part of the American Film Theatre series. Before it was filmed for the American Film Theatre, it ran at the Greenwich Theatre, London, with the same principal cast later used for the film version. The cinematographer Douglas Slocombe deliberately implemented many of Genet's theatrical devices for the film. The camera was often static, the settings lush and extravagant.
The film was shown at the 1975 Cannes Film Festival, but wasn't entered into the main competition.

The play was first presented in Britain in French by the ICA, initially at the Mercury Theatre, Notting Hill Gate, London. Peter Zadek directed, while Eduardo Paolozzi provided the scenic design.Selma Vaz Dias played Solange, Olive Gregg played Claire, and Oriel Ross played Madame. The production subsequently transferred to the Royal Court Theatre, where Betty Stockfield played Madame and David de Bethel provided the scenic design. Zadek also directed the play's first production in Britain in English, which opened on 5 June 1956 at the New Lindsey Theatre Club. Selma Vaz Dias again played Solange and Betty Stockfield played Madame, while Hazel Penwarden played Claire.

Dear maam/sir,

Hey -

Imagine discovering a secret online "FLAW".

A completely unknown "flaw" that this guy's
exploited for OVER $1 million on ClickBank
in UNDER 3 months...

http://www.nicejobs.co.cc/aff1jun.php?e=webmaster@itccommunications.net

That's the kind of cash that most of us
wouldn't even see in our ENTIRE life.

And this guy's done it in under 3 months.

Crazy thing is he's an average guy who's
a total "nobody". Definitely not one of
those "gurus".

What's *shocking* is that before this
guy discovered this "flaw", he was
collecting $100 welfare checks.

I'm being deadly serious.

This guy's no genius.

Just an average Joe who a couple
of years ago didn't even know how
to connect his computer to a printer.

But he stumbled into the right place at the
right time. And this secret flaw was leaked to
him...

Watch this right now...

.

Aries (Mar21/Apr20) It’s hard to focus because there are so many distractions. This isn’t the best time to study, but you have to apply yourself anyway, or you’ll be totally unprepared for an upcoming test or task. Luckily, you have a friend or lover who is happy to take care of the household duties while you take care of business. Learning a new skill is tedious, but it’s the only way to get ahead. You have to admit that it feels like you’ve been treading water for a long time.
 .
Taurus (Apr21/May21) A loved one has used their powers of seduction to manipulate you. Now you feel foolish. Don't be too hard on yourself. You can't be blamed for obeying your generous impulses. Of course, you've learned a valuable lesson and won't be tricked again. On the plus side, you're making real strides with your health. Integrating weight resistance training into your daily routine will give you a lean, sculpted look that turns heads. When you look good, you feel good!
 .
Gemini (May22/Jun21) You're giving too much away to a friend or partner. Deep down inside, you're worried you're not worthy of love. Nothing is further from the truth. Developing your creative skills should be your first priority. Ideas flow from you like a mighty river. Trying to contain them will only make you miserable. Yes, some of your notions are disturbing, but they should be expressed, anyway. Shaking up the status quo is the only way to make positive changes!
 .
Cancer (Jun22/Jul23) Your instincts are being dulled by a toxic environment. It's time to leave your current situation for greener pastures. You don't want to become bitter and cynical like some of your peers. Take your cues from a relative who has always been graceful under fire. You can keep your commitments without feeling beholden to an abusive authority figure. Give your notice, finish off your duties and don't look back! Bigger and better opportunities are ahead, if you're willing to pursue them.
 .
Leo (Jul24/Aug23) As incredible as it sounds, there is such a thing as having too much fun. You have to juggle your priorities to include work. If you don't, your friends and family will start resenting you. They've been doing the majority of heavy lifting while you've been enjoying yourself. If the tables were turned, you'd feel the same way. Taking a class designed to advance your career prospects will be beneficial. In this economy, you can't afford to sit around, waiting for the right opportunity to arrive.
 .
Virgo (Aug24/Sep23) Be realistic about a relative's strengths and weaknesses as this family member can't be trusted with important duties. Give this job to somebody else, even at the risk of offending your loved one. Cash from a job you performed a long time ago finally arrives, enabling you to spend money on a business venture or political campaign. Your ideas for saving resources and maximising profit are good ones. Have a talk with someone who knows how to manage money.
 .
Libra (Sep24/Oct23) Your no-nonsense attitude makes a good impression on a teacher. It's obvious you're willing to do whatever it takes to get ahead. If that means curtailing your social life in favour of long study sessions, so be it. Someone who has been pelting you with compliments has an ulterior motive. Don't let their lavish praise go to their head. If you really want to see what this flirt wants watch what they get up to when they don't know they're being watched.
 .
Scorpio (Oct24/Nov22) Your love of luxury has landed you in serious financial trouble. It's time to reverse the tide. Paying off your debts will take a long time, but at least you will feel like you're making progress. If you have difficulty finding a job, you may want to volunteer at a hospital, university, or government agency. This will give you valuable experience and will lead to a paying opportunity. Sometimes you have to be creative to make your way in the world.
 .
Sagittarius (Nov23/Dec21) While your allure is undeniable, it won't be enough to keep a lover chained to your side. If this relationship is going to flourish, you'll need to be more attentive and caring. Taking your amour for granted worked for a while, but now they've grown bored with your neglect. Ask for an older friend's advice regarding the future. The temptation to break things off is strong, but it would be a shame to abandon a love affair that once gave you such pleasure.
 .
Capricorn (Dec22/Jan20) A secret love affair is wreaking havoc with your life. You simply can't afford to continue with this deception any longer. While it may not be the best thing to notify the offended parties, you can still walk away. Cutting off all contact with the people involved is necessary. If you don't, the relationship will continue to undermine your happiness. Consider what damage this situation will do to your reputation. Can you really afford to continue along this path?
 .
Aquarius (Jan21/Feb19) Friends aren't being terribly supportive; maybe it's because they feel neglected. Lately, you've been utterly wrapped up in a romance or creative project. Take a few steps back from your immediate concerns and consider the world around you. Some of your loved ones are experiencing real difficulty. Pause to enquire after their health and ask if they need help. A legal matter will be decided son helping you to forge ahead with a trip you had to delay.
 .
Pisces (Feb20/Mar20) All the grace and charm in the world won't impress your family. If you're going to earn their respect, stop thinking about appearances and start focusing on results. Look for new clients, develop your talent and explore fresh opportunities. See projects through to the end, instead of abandoning them at the first sign of trouble. Put money away in a savings fund or you won't have anything to show for your hard work. Forgoing a few luxuries won't be much of a sacrifice.

Dare you to keep your feet still while watching How She Move, a rip-roaring salute to Jamaican-influenced step-dancing with an infectious backbeat. The film will appeal to fans of other dance tributes like Stomp the Yard but also to fans of High School Musical, Bring It On and other teen let's-put-on-a-show empowerment films. The story is set in Toronto's thriving Caribbean-immigrant community, though there are nods to American 'hoods as well. While the drama is a bit short on plot, there's no shortage of action or star power. The film's lead, the dynamic Rutina Wesley, plays Raya Green, an honors student whose life is shattered by the death of her sister, and by her unwilling return from her private school to her urban neighborhood. But young Raya's spirit is indomitable, as shows the tough neighborhood boys she's every bit a dance force to be reckoned with as they are. Her dancing gives this film its sweet patina of grrl power on top of its fabulous choreographed moves. Also don't miss the great soundtrack, featuring Missy Elliott and Busta Rhymes. How she move? Pretty darn great. --A.T. Hurley
