European military experts have presented a plan that could offer Ukraine protection from Russian missile and drone attacks. Called 'Sky Shield,' it involves deploying a European force of 120 fighter jets to protect Kyiv and western Ukraine from Russian air strikes.
The initiative proposes covering three of Ukraine's operating nuclear power plants and the cities of Odesa and Lviv, but not the frontline or Ukraine's east. Its authors stress that Sky Shield would be an explicitly Europe-led air protection zone operated separately from NATO.

John Ratcliffe, the CIA director, said the US was ready to work with Ukraine again after it paused the sharing of military intelligence and suspended military aid. Speaking to Fox Business, Ratcliffe said that a conciliatory statement released by Zelensky yesterday showed that he was ready to discuss a ceasefire with Putin. “President Zelensky put out a statement that said: ‘I am ready for peace, and I want President Donald Trump’s leadership to bring about that peace,’” Ratcliffe said. “And so I think on the military front and the intelligence front, the pause that allowed that to happen, I think will go away, and I think we’ll work shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine, as we have, to push back on the aggression that’s there.” Zelensky also wrote to Trump ahead of the US president’s address to a joint session of Congress agreeing to “come to the negotiating table” to strike a peace deal.
