In early December, China launched its third batch of low Earth orbit, or LEO, internet satellites for a constellation called Qianfan or “Thousand Sails” as it’s also known. The project aims to rival SpaceX’s Starlink and will be made up of 15,000 satellites.

China is also working on two other satellite constellations: Guo Wang and Honghu-3, which have plans to deploy 13,000 and 10,000 satellites respectively.

Experts say having its own satellite internet systems will grant China geopolitical influence and national security. But currently, China needs more rockets to launch all if its planned satellites to orbit.

The Qianfan constellation will compete directly with the service offered by Elon Musk's satellite internet company

A high-ranking Russian general has been killed in an explosion in Moscow less than 24 hours after Ukraine accused him of ordering the use of chemical weapons against its forces. Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, 54, and his driver, named only as Ilya P, died when a bomb detonated outside his home about five miles from the Kremlin, investigators in Moscow said. Images from the scene showed two bodies lying in the blood-stained snow outside the ruins of the entrance to an apartment block. READ MORE: https://www.thetimes.com/world/russia... The bomb is believed to have been strapped to a kick scooter that had been left near by, according to Baza, a Russian Telegram channel with links to the security services. It said the explosion had happened at 6am as Kirillov was being picked up by his driver at the Sreda housing complex.
