The Israeli Public Security Minister, Yitzhak Aharonovich said that it was an attack by Palestinian militants that left a device with one kilogram of explosives in a bag on the sidewalk, near a telephone booth in front of the central terminal collective Jerusalem.
No group claimed to have committed an attack in Jerusalem, which was the scene of numerous suicide bombings in the hottest years of the latest Palestinian uprising (Intifada) against Israeli occupation began in 2000 and subsided in recent years. The last suicide bombing in Jerusalem was in 2004.
The explosion heard throughout the holy city and reached two groups of line left with several of its windows shattered. Blood stains were visible on the pavement, amid the hectic evacuation of wounded and the presence of dozens of police, soldiers and civil defense personnel.
