http://www.euronews.net/ It was champagne shower time in Brest as Loick Peyron celebrated a new non-stop round-the-world sailing record.

The French skipper and his crew of 13 had good reason to pop a few corks of bubbly. They cut nearly three days off the previous mark to win the Jules Verne Trophy.

The 40-metre Maxi Banque Populaire V trimaran crossed the line of departure having circumnavigated the globe in 45 days, 13 hours and 42 minutes.

French skipper Franck Cammas, who held the previous record, is currently competing in the Volvo Ocean Race.
