Europe - EDF set to boost stake in Italian power giant Edison to 81%

http://www.euronews.net/ EDF the French state controlled power company has boosted its stake in Edison, Italy's number two utility company.

It has agreed to pay 700 million euros in the deal to take its share to 81 per cent giving the power giant control of Edison.

The long-awaited agreement stands to give EDF sought after access to gas resources in southeastern Europe and the Mediterranean basin.

The deal still needs the approval from the boards of Edison shareholders as well as regulators.

India - Anna Hazare, starts a 3 day hunger strike today because anti-corruption bill does not go far enough

http://www.euronews.net/ India's parliament is considering changing the anti-corruption bill, but that does not go far enough according to activist Anna Hazare, who begins a three-day hunger strike on Tuesday.

Dissatisfied with the weak legislation, Hazare has also threatened to protest against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's ruling Congress Party.

The Lokpall bill would create an anti-corruption ombudsman, and the prime minister has appealed for all parties to support the measure, but Hazare claims this will not be enough to stamp out fraud.

But on the other side of the shop windows, it is another story. Shop floor workers are among the lowest paid, even here, in London's glittering Oxford Street.

"I earn £6.15 an hour. I have to live with my uncles, and £600 doesn't go that far at all for 4 weeks" says a young Australian woman.
