Witnesses have begun testifying in the trial of a man accused of killing a University of North Carolina student body president in March 2008. The victim, Eve Carson, died after she was shot multiple times. (Nov. 7)

France and Germany are expected to keep rallying support for their plan for treaty change right up to the last minute before all 27 members meet up.

Both see fiscal integration and tougher budget discipline as the way forward.

But credit rating agencies and the markets will be looking for more decisive short term action along the lines of doubling the bailout rescue fund.

With his wife beside him Blagojevich said after sentencing: "This is a time to fight through adversity, this is a time for me to be strong for my children, to be strong for Pattie and this is also a time for Pattie and me to get home so we can explain to our kids, our babies Amy and Annie, what happened and what all this means and where we are going from here."
