Libra - Daily stars for today 13 July 2011 - www.shelleyvonstrunckel.com

Facts may be facts, but when issues involve somebody you care about, you tend to take a gentle approach to even complex dilemmas. While this may eliminate others' anxieties now, within a short time they'll reappear. It would be better to tackle these in a forthright, if tactful, manner from the outset.

Russell Grant's Daily Horoscopes for Wednesday 13th July 2011

.
Aries (Mar21/Apr20) Your best friend, lover, or business partner reveals some painful truths. It's about time you become more accommodating. Just because your family is willing to look the other way at selfish behaviour doesn't mean anyone else will. Try to look at your attitudes objectively. Is it possible you've been demanding too much? When is the last time you enquired after your friend's well being? Being a little more accommodating will go a long way towards having a happier relationship.
 .
Taurus (Apr21/May21) Flattery won't get you anywhere with a colleague. If you're going to work together, you'll have to pull your weight. That means dividing the tough jobs equally. Unemployed? Don't be quick to accept a position that sounds too good to be true. Do a little research into your potential employer. You may discover some shady dealings that don't sit well with you. Avoid such a boss like the plague. Or else, you could end up doing a lot of work for a pittance.
 .
Gemini (May22/Jun21) You'll have to cancel plans at the last minute, which is really upsetting. Unfortunately, your budget won't allow for unnecessary expenditures. Still, you can manage to have a good time if you don't let disappointment poison your thinking. Take this opportunity to sit down and spend quality time with an old friend. Playing cards, making a meal, or going for a walk together will be a lot more pleasurable than you expected. There's a lot to be said for the simpler things in life.
 .
Cancer (Jun22/Jul23) Sometimes it feels like your family will never understand you. You're a lot more whimsical than most of your relatives. Resist their attempts to rein you in. Anyone who is blessed with your wit and charm can move mountains. It's all a matter of expressing yourself freely. If you feel compelled to paint, write music, or act, do it. Don't discuss your plans with critics. Right now, you've got to maintain a positive mindset.
 .
Leo (Jul24/Aug23) It's important to take a warning letter seriously. If you owe money or need to submit some documents, don’t dilly dally any longer, do what needs to be done. Not sure how to proceed? Ask an older friend for help. The sooner you take care of this matter, the better. There won't be room available for you in a class, which complicates things. Talk to the teacher to see if an exception can be made in your favour. You should be certified soon!
 .
Virgo (Aug24/Sep23) Friends are trying to protect your feelings and you won't get honest feedback if you ask for their opinion. It's better to show your work to an objective party. If you're willing to accept tough criticism, you can turn a flawed project into an impressive one. There's a great deal of money at stake here. Doing a good job with this assignment will lead to bigger and better offers. Still, you have got to be open to suggestions, even if some of them bruise your ego.
 .
Libra (Sep24/Oct23) You're not the type of person who plays heavy handed to get what you want. Instead, you use charm to get what you want. This can be very effective in your personal life, but problematic with your career. If you're going to advance up the ladder to success, you have to be a little more aggressive. Be ready to elbow the competition out of the way, especially when you're competing for a good job. You have all the experience and talent necessary for landing this position.
 .
Scorpio (Oct24/Nov22) Your deepest fears are getting the best of you. It's time to expand your horizons, but you're too scared to try something new. Lean on an accomplished friend for support. Their words of encouragement will give you the necessary courage to move forward. Don't discuss your plans with a cynic. Their gloomy outlook is contagious. This isn't a good time to pursue a legal matter. You don't have any proof to establish a case.
 .
Sagittarius (Nov23/Dec21) You're toying with the idea of turning a friendship into a romance. Resist the urge, or you'll soon regret it. The two of you operate much better when sex isn't there to cloud your judgment. If you're looking for romance, you'll have to wait. Love isn't in the stars right now, at least for the short term future. Focus on fulfilling your creative desires instead. If you've ever wanted to write a book why not have a crack at it now?
 .
Capricorn (Dec22/Jan20) You'll have to meet a partner halfway if you're going to work together. Lately, you've been so wrapped up in work that it's been hard to find time for just the two of you. Stop placing so much emphasis on your responsibilities and put the focus on your personal life. You may not realise it, but you would never have got this far without the support of your loved ones. If you're single, it may be because you're not devoting enough attention to what makes you happy.
 .
Aquarius (Jan21/Feb19) A stern authority figure is cramping your style. If there's anything you hate, it's being forced to play by the rules. Unfortunately, you'll have to buckle down. After all, everybody else is expected to follow orders. Questions of ethics are a different matter. Anybody who tells you to do something that goes against your conscience should be reported. Are the orders coming from the top? Then you must break away from this organisation as soon as possible.
 .
Pisces (Feb20/Mar20) Don't mix romance with finance. Your lover may ask for a loan, but you just can't afford to give one right now. Besides, relationships are often compromised when you inject money into the mix. If you're in a committed relationship, you have to sit down with your partner and create a budget. If not, the two of you will continue to outspend your means. These days, everybody needs to take financial precautions. The sooner you pay off a debt, the happier you both will be.

Hobo with a Shotgun

Plot

A hobo, (Rutger Hauer), arrives in a chaotic place called Hope Town (graffiti sprayed over the word "hope" on the town sign makes it read "Scum Town") via freight train. Scum Town is ruled with an iron fist by The Drake (Brian Downey) and his sadistic sons Ivan (Nick Bateman) and Slick (Gregory Smith). Just as he arrives, the Hobo witness the execution of The Drake's brother Logan (Robb Wells), who is decapitated in front of a crowd that takes no action.
.
The Hobo later visits a pawn shop, where he sees a lawnmower costing $49.99. In order to buy it and start a lawnmowing business, the Hobo starts begging for change on a sidewalk, where he sees Ivan and Slick entering a building. He follows them into an arcade with people being tortured for sport and witnesses them harassing a boy named Otis, who owes them money.
.
When a prostitute named Abby (Molly Dunsworth) attempts to stop them, Slick decides to kill her, but is stopped by the Hobo, who knocks him unconscious with a sock full of coins and takes him to the police station in order to turn him in. However, the police chief reveals his corruption and allows Slick to escape. He and Ivan beat the Hobo up and carve the word "scum" into his chest before throwing him into a garbage bin. Abby finds him and takes him to her apartment, where she tends to his wounds and the two become friends. The next day, the Hobo goes to a local cameraman who pays homeless people to inflict harm upon themselves, and, upon completing a series of degrading acts, including eating glass, earns enough money to purchase the lawnmower. At the pawn shop, just as he is about to buy the lawnmower, the Hobo sees a woman and her baby being held hostage by a trio of robbers and grabs a shotgun on the shelf to gun them down. Realizing that Hope Town needs justice, he chooses the shotgun - which also costs $49.99 - over the lawnmower, and goes on a rampage, killing dozens of criminals, including the cameraman and a pedophile dressed as Santa Claus.
.
The Drake, infuriated by the positive effect that the Hobo's actions are having on the townspeople, instructs Ivan and Slick to get rid of him. After using a flamethrower on a school bus filled with children in order to remind the citizens of Hope Town that they are to be feared, they burst into a television station during a live news broadcast, kill the anchor (played by George Strombolopolous in a cameo role) and demand that all homeless people be killed, leading to the formation of mobs which start attacking vagrants. One of the mobs finds the Hobo when he uses the shotgun to save Abby from a perverted cop intending to rape her. They chase him, but he is able to escape with Abby back to her apartment. However, Otis sees them and calls Slick to inform him of the Hobo's location.
.
As the Hobo and Abby are preparing to leave Hope Town to start a lawnmowing business somewhere else, they are attacked by Ivan and Slick, who seriously wounds Abby before the Hobo is able to force Ivan to flee by threatening to shoot his brother. Once Ivan is gone, the Hobo kills Slick by shooting his tiny penis off. The Drake hears of this and calls Rip and Grinder (Nick Bateman and Peter Simas), a duo of armour-clad demons known as 'The Plague', to take the Hobo down. The Hobo takes Abby to a hospital, where he is ambushed by The Plague, captured, and taken to The Drake, who intends to execute him in front of the townspeople in order to set an example. Meanwhile, Abby, having recovered, takes the Hobo's shotgun to the pawn shop where she modifies it and also weaponizes the lawnmower. She then rallies together a crowd of angry people and leads them to take Drake down once and for all.
.
In an alley, Abby confronts Drake, Ivan and the Plague. She threatens to kill Ivan with the weaponized lawn mower, but Drake kills him first, deeming him expendable. In the ensuing fight, Abby releases the Hobo and gives his shotgun back to him. She also kills Grinder before The Drake cuts her hand off with the lawnmower. She, however, stabs him repeatedly with her exposed arm bone. Rip tells Abby that she must replace Grinder, but the Hobo refuses to allow her to do it, and The Plague departs. The Hobo prepares to finish off The Drake, who was trying to crawl away to safety, when the corrupt police arrive. The townspeople decide to take a stand between the Hobo and the police, but the Hobo refuses to have them sacrifice themselves for him and shoots The Drake in the head. The police open fire, killing the Hobo, and are killed by the townspeople in retaliation. The film then ends with a close up shot of the shotgun and then the credits roll.
.
In an extended ending, that was cut from the final cut of the film, Abby's hand is replaced by several shotguns and becomes part of The Plague.

"Bobby Fischer Against the World" trailer - in UK Cinemas Friday 15th July 2011 - Directed By: Liz Garbus

Uploaded by on Jun 21, 2011

Award-winning filmmaker Liz Garbus presents a fascinating portrait of one of the most intriguing and enigmatic figures of the 20th century -- World Chess Champion Bobby Fischer. Out in cinemas 15 July, Bobby Fischer Against the World traces the Grand Master from child prodigy, to Cold War hero, to controversial recluse. Cutting interviews with Bobby and the people who knew him with footage and news reports, Bobby Fischer Against the World is a mesmerising portrait of the rise and bizarre fall of one of the great American icons.

In 1958, 14-year old Robert James "Bobby" Fischer stunned the chess world by becoming the youngest Grand Master in history, launching a career that would make him a legend. Raised by his mother in Brooklyn, he taught himself to play chess at the age of six and started beating seasoned adult chess players at eight. Throughout the sixties, as his star rose, Bobby would appear regularly on TV and tour the world resoundingly beating all. His career highlight came in 1972 when he played the Russian Grand Master and reigning champion Boris Spassky - a series that was equally tied in with the Cold War as it was with chess. After his victory, Bobby became the most famous person on the planet and his already erratic behaviour began spiraling out of control, turning this genius into an unrecognisable recluse and pariah.

Director Liz Garbus (Emmy Award® winning Ghosts of Abu Ghraib and Academy Award® nominated Street Fight) has crafted a complex film of a complex persona, exploring issues such as whether Bobby was ever equipped to deal with the fame and the pressures of being in the public eye; how his fractious relationship with his mother may have contributed to this; and how he propelled chess to a world-wide phenomenon, boosting it to a level of popularity not seen since. Truly unique, Bobby Fischer still stands as the most famous Grand Master, a life devoured by his obsession with chess and whose death revealed nothing about what eventually destroyed him.
