Libra - Daily stars for today 3 July 2011 - www.shelleyvonstrunckel.com

Being a Libra, you're far too polite to tell those who've been obnoxious about their views, that they were just plain wrong. But perhaps you should. The reason this important is that the next time circumstances of this nature arise, you can remind them of their arrogance and of how wrong they were.

Please note Russell has changed from Monday to Saturday Our apologies for not noticing this and publishing yesterday
.

Aries (Mar21/Apr20) You feel passionately about a subject that leaves a loved one cold. There’s no point trying to win people round; it will only annoy them. You’re better off discussing these matters with someone who is sympathetic to your point of view. On the plus side, this is a great time for group outings. Plan something special with the gang. The more casual the event, the more fun people will have. Beware of lashing out at a relative who is trying to do their best.
 .
Taurus (Apr21/May21) A computer glitch could cause information or messages to go missing. Make plenty of copies of any paperwork before submitting it. This will cut down on confusion. If you are mailing important data, you may want to send it in a way that can be tracked, just to avoid trouble. A relative will ask for a loan. Be prepared to turn them down. If you don’t, you’ll be enabling irresponsible behaviour. You have better things to do with your hard earned cash.
 .
Gemini (May22/Jun21) A group project will come apart at the seams. Have a back up plan ready, especially if your reputation is at stake. No matter how much you try to reason with some people, they’ll keep clinging to a financially foolish plan. Entering a competition will pay off handsomely. This is a wonderful opportunity to show off your creative and intellectual gifts. Someone older disapproves of what you say or do, they are trying to put you straight because they love and care for you.
 .
Cancer (Jun22/Jul23) An authority figure’s erratic behaviour is taking its toll on your family life. You must draw better boundaries between your personal and working lives. Fortunately, your best friend or romantic partner is a tower of strength. Lean on your loved one when the going gets tough. Friends may ask you to go with them on an expensive outing. You’re better off staying put and saving your hard earned cash. There’ll be plenty of opportunity to splurge later in the month.
 .
Leo (Jul24/Aug23) People will be very receptive to your ideas. This is a great time to make a proposal or promote a business. Don’t let a stuffy older person talk you out of a presentation. Your methods are too cutting edge for their sensibilities. Someone who admires your creative abilities might make a pass at you. Fortunately, you welcome these attentions. Take everything your boss says with a grain of salt. They have a tendency to make promises that can’t be kept.
 .
Virgo (Aug24/Sep23) Listen to your intuition when it comes to a creative project. Writing a humorous story, novel, or an online blog will be a great use of your intellectual talent. Beware of buying an expensive status symbol. You must save your money for business equipment. Having a good computer and phone will boost your earning power, but this is one of those times when you have to spend money to make money. A glamorous trip will put you on the path to romance.
 .
Libra (Sep24/Oct23) Bounce your ideas off a trusted group of friends before presenting them to a business meeting. Their suggestions will help you put in a perfect performance. You may need to lighten up a bit. You tend to get overly serious when talking about money. The best way to get people to invest in your ideas is to charm them. Fortunately, you’ve been blessed with wit, intelligence, and charm. Resist the urge to run up lots of debt on a shopping spree.
 .
Scorpio (Oct24/Nov22) Someone’s working behind the scenes to put obstacles in your path. The only way to deal with them is to think ahead and be prepared. The more you know, the harder it is for people to keep you down. Someone close can help you financially to get a plan up and running. You can always repay the favour when you reap the rewards due to you. Don’t get into an argument about religion or politics with a buddy at work. Stirring up controversy damages your reputation.
 .
Sagittarius (Nov23/Dec21) Educational and publishing opportunities are starting to open up. Whether you want to teach or take a class, this is a great time to pursue your goal. Alternatively, you may want to push a creative project to various agencies. You have a good shot at getting paid for your written work. An experienced friend can help you write the necessary letters. If a youngster throws a tantrum don’t give in to their bad behaviour, or you’ll set a dangerous precedent.
 .
Capricorn (Dec22/Jan20) Putting money into a savings, retirement, or college fund is strongly advised. The more you money you put away now, the easier life will become. That’s because you won’t have to make choices out of financial necessity. Your boss is bearing down hard. You’ll have to put forth your best performance if you’re going to pass muster. If not, you could be at risk for losing your job. Fortunately, you’re resourceful enough to know how to allocate your time.
 .
Aquarius (Jan21/Feb19) Your words of warning won’t be appreciated by your colleagues. So sit back and let the disastrous plans unfold. You’ll be called upon to clean up the mess soon enough. Money from an inheritance or refund allows you to take a trip you’ve always wanted. Head for an exotic location near water. You may meet an outrageous flirt at a party and it will be the beginning of a beautiful friendship. If you already have a lover, take care not to do anything you’ll regret later.
 .
Pisces (Feb20/Mar20) If you’re looking for work; this is a good time to send out applications. You could have particularly good luck with work related to entertainment, childcare and art. Emphasise your versatility in job interviews. The benefits may not be significant at first, but you’ll get more and more perks as you climb the ladder of success. Be patient. A letter of recommendation will open several doors for you. Ask an influential friend to write you one. They will be happy to help.
.

Russell Grant’s Daily Horoscopes: Sunday 3rd July 2011

.
Aries (Mar21/Apr20) No one believes the lies now being spread and if these concern you don’t lose sleep over it. Attempts to nip a rumour in the bud could have the reverse affect. The more it is discussed, the further it will spread. You would do better to completely ignore the gossips. Any of your friends who believe what’s being said clearly don’t know you and aren’t really friends at all. The people left who know you and stand by you are your true friends and these friendships should be cherished.
 .
Taurus (Apr21/May21) Avoid taking on responsibility that rightfully belongs to someone else. They may resent your interference if they’re trying to challenge themselves. Equally if this is a person who shies away from hard work, you aren’t doing them any favours by encouraging their lazy ways. A needy neighbour or lackadaisical colleague will try to take advantage of your kindness; they will only get away with this if you let them.
 .
Gemini (May22/June21) Think first before spending limited resources on non-essentials; you don’t want to make a bad situation worse! Splashing out on a treat for yourself or loved one’s isn’t worth it if you can’t afford it. Talk over the possibility of taking on an extra job, with your family. There is money to be made from performing a service that is needed by a majority of the public on a daily basis. This may mean less time for friends and no time at all for relaxation but it’s worth it as a temporary solution to your financial problems.
 .
Cancer (June22/July23) Someone isn’t telling you the truth to escape responsibility for their actions. What they don’t realise is you can easily see through their lies. If you’re reluctant to challenge them yourself because you are too emotionally involved, ask someone else to intervene. This person can take an unbiased view of the matter and is more likely to get to the bottom of the problem. To take your mind off your problems spend a few hours away from your usual haunts.
 .
Leo (July24/Aug23) You don’t have to go out with friends to have some fun in fact you may be aware of a need for some time alone. Changes are occurring in your life and your next step needs thinking through thoroughly. Spend some time thinking about what you would like to achieve most over the months ahead. Something is telling you a partner or loved one will object to your ideas and that’s what’s keeping you from pursuing certain aims.
 .
Virgo (Aug24/Sept23) A group that used to give you a sense of belonging is not the same as it used to be. New members have brought in new ideas and you aren’t sure you like these changes. Whereas at one time everyone knew each other, it might seem as if no one has a clear picture of their individual team mates any more. The more respect and harmony there is within a group the more enjoyable it will be. Suggest team activities or outings that will help you all get to know each other.
 .
Libra (Sept24/Oct23) There’s tension in a close relationship when past matters come up for discussion. You can’t afford to sacrifice your own needs for the sake of a partner or close friend’s happiness. You’ve always done your best to please others but you’ve got to start thinking about yourself. Why do you always put their needs first? Work on your self worth, admit to your insecurities and strengthen your self esteem. Start standing up for yourself.
 .
Scorpio (Oct24/Nov22) Stay open minded and contact with others from another culture will be enlightening. Travel plans may include a variety of people from a variety of places. Although language may at first present problems you will quickly fall into the way of things. Don’t forget those you’re mixing with may be finding your ways strange too! If you respect their habits and customs, they are likely to show you the same kind of consideration.
 .
Sagittarius (Nov23/Dec21) If you’re robbing Peter to pay Paul, wrestle with your financial problems; don’t bury your head in the sand. Seek opinions from people you respect and trust. Ask a financial expert for strategies on handling your finances and saving money. Before deciding on anything, talk it over with a partner. Joint decisions will be needed for joint money accounts and shared financial responsibilities. Make a long term financial plan that suits you both and stick to it.
 .
Capricorn (Dec22/Jan20) It isn’t your fault a relationship is going through problems so why keep blaming yourself? There’s feeling guilty and being guilty and you aren’t the one who has caused all the mayhem. Turn your critical mind to this matter and on analysis, you will see a lot of the time it is six of one and half a dozen of the other. A partner has cleverly loaded all culpability on you and for a while you believed them. This isn’t how any relationship is supposed to work.
 .
Aquarius (Jan21/Feb19) A situation could have been a bit better but looking at it from another perspective, it could have been a lot worse. Compared with your recent successful endeavours, a new strategy won’t succeed quite as well. A gamble may not pay off but you won’t regret having tried. You thought you could make it work and you will have done your best. In hindsight, you might see how you could have made better use of strategies.
 .
Pisces (Feb20/Mar20) Are you making full use of your talents or are they just going to waste? If some skills have grown rusty think about taking a class in your favourite creative pastime. Spend some time in quiet contemplation or just being alone to reflect on your current lifestyle. Are you sacrificing your creativity for the sake of pleasing a practical partner or derisory parent? If so, they will continue to chip away at your confidence unless you take the initiative and go against their wishes.

Transporter 3

Plot

A ship at sea is supposedly carrying alcohol. Two crew-members accidentally discover the cargo is actually toxic waste, and are killed. Their bodies are thrown overboard.

.
Meanwhile, Frank Martin (Jason Statham) has been pressured into transporting a package, together with Valentina (Natalya Rudakova); Both have a device attached to their wrists which is wired to explode if the person concerned strays more than 75 feet (22.86 metres) away from the car. It is soon revealed that the objective is to deliver Valentina; She is the daughter of Leonid Vasilev (Jeroen Krabbé), head of the Ukraine's Environmental Protection Agency. Vasilev refused to do business with an environmentally irresponsible company, so they arranged for an employee called Johnson (Robert Knepper) to kidnap her. Valentina is being used as leverage, to get Vasilev to sign a contract with the organization.
.
Frank travels from Marseille through Munich and Budapest until he ends up in Odessa on the Black Sea. With the help of Inspector Tarconi (François Berléand), Frank contends with the people who strong-armed him into taking the job, agents sent by the Ukrainian government to intercept him, and the general non-cooperation of his passenger.
.
Valentina thinks she is going to die, so consumes drugs and alcohol to feel better and have some fun for the last time. Frank is not happy with this, because both have to remain sharp. However, Frank and Valentina fall for each other, while escaping from one life-threatening situation after another.
.
Eventually Valentina is kidnapped by Johnson, leaving on a passenger train. Martin drives his car off a bridge to land on the moving train, then fights all the thugs inside. Johnson and Valentina end up in a carriage near the front of the train, which is then decoupled from the rest of the carriages. Returning to his car, Martin jumps the widening gap, crashing into the carriage. After a struggle, Martin transfers the explosive device from his wrist to Johnsons, then launches the vehicle from the train. The explosive device kills Johnson.
.
Tarconi rescues them and calls Vasilev, telling him that his daughter is safe. Vasilev rips up the contract, and the ship from the beginning is raided by the police. Frank, Tarconi and Valentina are shown fishing in the ocean.

First original theatrical trailer for the 1995 film "Heat." Starring Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Val Kilmer, Tom Sizemore, Ashley Judd, Amy Brenneman, Ted Levine, Jon Voight. Written & Directed by Michael Mann.

Heat (1995 film)

Plot

Career criminal Neil McCauley (Robert De Niro) and his crew — Chris Shiherlis (Val Kilmer), Michael Cheritto (Tom Sizemore), Trejo (Danny Trejo), and Waingro (Kevin Gage) — perpetrate an armored car heist, stealing $1.6 million in bearer bonds from money launderer Roger Van Zant (William Fichtner). During the heist, Waingro impulsively kills one of the guards, forcing the crew to eliminate the remaining two guards out of necessity. An infuriated McCauley tries to kill Waingro afterward, but Waingro escapes. McCauley's fence Nate (Jon Voight) sets up a meeting with Van Zant to sell the bonds back. Van Zant ostensibly agrees, but instructs his men to kill McCauley as a warning to other thieves. With backup from his crew, McCauley thwarts the ambush and vows revenge.

Lieutenant Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) of the LAPD Robbery-Homicide Division heads the investigation of the armored car heist and learns McCauley's crew plans to rob a precious metals depository next. Hanna and his unit stake out the depository, but when an officer inadvertently makes a noise, McCauley is tipped off, and the crew abandon the robbery. Despite the police surveillance, McCauley and his crew decide to go through with a bank holdup with an estimated $12 million payoff. Waingro is revealed to be a serial killer of prostitutes, with his latest victim falling under Hanna's jurisdiction. Hanna discovers that his wife Justine (Diane Venora) is having an affair and moves to a hotel, and McCauley catches Charlene Shiherlis (Ashley Judd) cheating on Chris with Alan Marciano (Hank Azaria), a Las Vegas liquor salesman with a criminal past.
.
Hanna deliberately intercepts McCauley during a surveillance operation and invites him to coffee, where he concedes the problems of his personal life; his concern for his depressed stepdaughter Lauren (Natalie Portman) and the failure of his third marriage due to his obsession with work. Likewise, McCauley confesses that life as a criminal forbids attachments and stresses mobility, making his relationship with his girlfriend Eady (Amy Brenneman) tenuous. Having met face to face, Hanna and McCauley share a mutual respect, but readily admit that neither will hesitate to kill the other if the circumstances demand it.
.
Trejo is compromised just hours before the bank robbery. In need of a new getaway driver, McCauley recruits Donald Breeden (Dennis Haysbert), an ex-convict frustrated with his demoralizing position as a short order cook at a diner. Hanna's unit is alerted to the robbery in-progress by a confidential informant and surprises McCauley's crew as they exit the bank. Cherrito, Breeden, and several police officers, including Detective Bosko (Ted Levine), are killed in the ensuing shootout. McCauley narrowly escapes with an injured Chris and leaves him with a doctor (Jeremy Piven) to treat his wounds. He tracks down Trejo, who he finds at his home beaten to a bloody pulp. Trejo admits that Van Zant's men called in the tip on the robbery from information Waingro provided. McCauley executes Trejo at his request, then hunts down and kills Van Zant. He makes new arrangements to flee to New Zealand with Eady, who is now fully aware of his criminal activities. The police surveil Waingro in a hotel near the airport, and Hanna attempts to bait McCauley into coming out of hiding by releasing Waingro's whereabouts to the network of bookies, bail bondsmen, and snitches he hopes will spread the word.
.
Charlene leaves Chris and goes with Marciano to a police safe house, where Sergeant Drucker (Mykelti Williamson) threatens to charge her as an accomplice and send her son to a foster home if she does not betray Chris to the police. Charlene initially agrees, but, when Chris shows up in disguise, she surreptitiously warns him about the police presence, and he slips through the dragnet. Hanna finds Lauren unconscious in his hotel room from a suicide attempt and rushes her to the hospital. As he and Justine wait in the lobby for the news of her recovery, they admit their marriage will never work. McCauley and Eady are en route to the airport when Nate calls with Waingro's location, and the temptation proves to be too much for the normally disciplined McCauley, who risks his assured freedom by detouring to exact his revenge. McCauley infiltrates the hotel, creates a distraction by pulling a fire alarm, and kills Waingro. Moments away from escape, he is forced to abandon Eady when he spots Hanna approaching in the crowd. Hanna chases McCauley into a field outside the LAX freight terminal, and mortally wounds him. He then holds McCauley's hand as he dies.

Ip Man (film)

Plot

Ip Man is set in the 1930s in Foshan, a hub of southern Chinese martial arts, where various schools actively recruit disciples and compete against each other. Although the Wing Chun master Ip Man is the most skilled martial artist in Foshan, he is unassuming and keeps a low profile. As an independently wealthy man, he feels no need to accept any disciples and instead spends his days training, meeting with friends, and spending time with his family. However, his wife is often resentful of the time he spends training and discussing martial arts with friends and colleagues. Though not a professional martial artist, Ip is respected in Foshan due to the abilities he displays in friendly, closed-door competitions with local masters. Ip's reputation is further enhanced when he defeats an aggressive, rude, highly skilled Northern master, Jin Shanzhao, thus upholding the regional pride of fellow Southern stylists and others in Foshan.

The Japanese invasion in 1937 adversely affects the life of everyone in Foshan. Ip's house is claimed by the Japanese and used as their Foshan headquarters. Ip and his family lose their wealth and are forced to move into a decrepit house. Desperate to support his family, Ip accepts work as a coolie at a coal mine. The Japanese general Miura, who is a master of karate, establishes an arena where Chinese martial artists compete with his military trainees. The Chinese earn a bag of rice for every Japanese opponent they defeat. When his friend Lin goes missing, Ip investigates and discovers the matches. At first disturbed by the spectacle, he is further enraged when he sees a fellow Foshan master killed when picking up a bag of rice from a prior victory after giving up in a second match against three karatekas. To further complicate matters, Ip learns that Li Zhao, a former police officer and Ip's acquaintance, is now working as a translator for the Japanese. In response, Ip demands a match with ten Karatekas at once, and defeats them with ease. His skill arouses the interest of Miura, who seeks to learn more about Ip and see him fight again.
.
Ip visits his friend Chow Ching-chuen, who owns and runs a cotton mill in Foshan. Chow tells Ip that a highway robbery gang led by Jin Shanzhao is harassing his workers and extorting money from them. Ip trains the workers in Wing Chun for self defence. Meanwhile, Miura grows impatient when Ip does not return to the arena and sends men to find Ip. These men harass Ip's family, and Ip incapacitates them. Ip and his family then go into hiding at Li Zhao's house. Meanwhile, the robbers return to the cotton mill to demand money. The workers fight back using the techniques that Ip taught them. Just then, Ip appears and defeats Jin Shanzhao, warning him never to harass the workers again.
.
The Japanese soldiers eventually find Ip at the cotton mill. Miura tells Ip that his life will be spared if agrees to instruct the Japanese soldiers in martial arts. Ip refuses and challenges Miura to a match, which Miura accepts, both because of his love for martial arts and because refusing the challenge would be a humiliation to the Japanese. The match between Ip and Miura is held in public in Foshan's square. Ip defeats Miura in the fight.
.
As the beaten general lies down after his defeat, Ip looks over to the crowd and hears the Chinese cheering him; within the crowd, he spots his wife and child with Chow. Just then, Miura's deputy Sato shoots Ip. This sparks a scuffle between the Chinese audience and the Japanese soldiers. During the scuffle Li Zhao kills Sato with Sato's own gun. Ip is taken away amidst the chaos. It is revealed that he survives and escapes to Hong Kong with his family. There, Ip establishes a Wing Chun school, where his students come to include Bruce Lee.
