The lone woman charged, Mary Surratt (Wright) owns a boarding house where John Wilkes Booth (Toby Kebbell) and others met and planned the simultaneous attacks. Against the ominous back-drop of post-Civil War Washington, newly-minted lawyer, Frederick Aiken (McAvoy), a 28-year-old Union war-hero, reluctantly agrees to defend Surratt before a military tribunal.
.
Aiken is at first very reluctant to take the case and believes his client is guilty. However, he uncovers evidence of her innocence and conducts a spirited defense. He realizes his client is being used as bait and hostage in order to capture the only conspirator to have escaped a massive manhunt, her own son, John (Johnny Simmons). As the nation turns against her, Surratt is forced to rely on Aiken to uncover the truth and save her life. In the end, Mary Surratt is found guilty and hanged

Plot

Middle aged Chinu Nandy has been playing bit parts in movies for several decades. Over the course of time, Chinu has learned to accept his fate, hoping that one day he could add as much flavor to a movie as dry red chillies would to a curry. Meanwhile, a world renowned Bengali director named Joy Sundar Sen has been the centre of media attention due to having recently returned from the Berlin film festival. He is also keen to direct a movie alongside an Australian producer named Isabella whom he recently met in Berlin. In search of a leading man, Joy finds Chinu and decides to cast him despite the fact that Chinu has only had prior experience as an "extra". Chinu's humble stance on life slowly begins to rub off on those around him with surprising results. In addition, Chinu himself learns to become more assertive as the film ends with him relating the success of his latest film role to his wife.

A communications truck was set on fire in central Athens on Tuesday, and youths hurled rocks and fire bombs at riot police, as a huge demonstration against new austerity measures descended into violence. The demonstration was called by unions, alongside a general strike that has brought the country to a standstill. Firefighters arrived on the scene to extinguish the blazing truck, the second one to be set alight during Tuesday's riots. Tuesday's clashes came at the start of a two-day strike called by unions furious that the new 28 billion euro (40 billion US Dollar) austerity program will slap taxes on minimum wage earners and other struggling Greeks.

Afghanistan yesterday - 10 Killed In Taliban Attack On Intercontinental Hotel In Kabul

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid claimed responsibility for the attack in a phone call to The Associated Press.

Times correspondent Jerome Starkey, who is near the hotel, told Sky News he heard short bursts of gunfire, but fighting appeared to have died down by 10pm UK time.

Several reports said wedding guests who were celebrating in the building at the time managed to flee the attack.

Local and provincial politicians, gathered for the security conference, were stuck inside but were not hurt.

Nazar Ali Wahedi, chief of intelligence for Helmand province in the south, called the assailants "the enemy of stability and peace".

"Our room was hit by several bullets," Mr Wahedi said. "We spent the whole night in our room."
