Russell Grant’s Weekly Horoscopes: Monday 11th April 2011

Aries (Mar21/Apr20) If there’s a socialising theme to the week it is more likely to take the shape of home entertaining on a small scale. You and those you spend time with are more in a mood to enjoy the quieter, more tranquil pleasures of life rather than doing anything in a big way. Some confusion is likely within a close relationship while Mercury continues to be retrograde in your sign. Deal with everything from a factual point of view and watch out for an irrational outburst.
 .
Taurus (Apr21/May21) With a heavy emphasis on the private zone of your chart you are more likely to prefer being at home, staying within familiar surroundings and working behind the scenes. Dreams, discussions or something you find while clearing out a cupboard or wardrobe could unearth hidden events and this will have the effect of reviving past quarrels and grievances. It might be better to let bygones be bygones and even to destroy a letter or item that might upset someone.
 .
Gemini (May22/June21) The pace speeds up as you are involved in a number of group and team events. With your ruler Mercury still retrograde, it’s worth checking all arrangements in your diary. Have you double booked yourself at any time? If your profession involves dealing with the public and women in particular, added success could be yours to enjoy. You might also get involved with a charity cause that is close to your heart.
 .
Cancer (June22/July23) A touch of inner conflict should not be allowed to rule your moods and spoil your days. If there is something you are unhappy about or you have a grievance you need to get off your chest, there are people around who are willing to listen. Take a deep breath and explain what it is that’s bugging you. Even if the person you turn to won’t be able to offer any immediate help or support it will be a relief to share your worries.
 .
Leo (July24/Aug23) A long term project begun now could have a profound bearing on the future. What’s important is you stick it out during the inevitable teething trouble phase. Once this has passed, everything will go smoothly. With Mercury retrograde there may be disagreements over minor details which can be solved through discussion and compromise. A domineering person will cause a scene but you won’t feel intimidated. You can handle their behaviour.
 .
Virgo (Aug24/Sept23) If you’re buying, selling or dealing with the sale or purchase of property there may be some slight delay in transactions. Be patient as the situation will improve later in April. At work, instead of waiting to be asked, why not be the first to volunteer for exciting new assignments. Being assertive will help you get on the good side of your boss or another superior who is looking for someone they can trust and rely on.
 .
Libra (Sept24/Oct23) Personal relationships will improve because you’re in tune with your partner now. Mercury retrograde helps you discuss matters of the past that have caused pain, upset and contention. In a close friendship old disagreements may also tend to return. Don’t be afraid to speak your mind as this is the only way the matter will be resolved. Overall you will feel you are making progress even if it has meant taking a few steps back in order to move forward again!
 .
Scorpio (Oct24/Nov22) All areas of life are likely to be busier than normal. Some people will complain they can’t keep up with it all but you will relish every mad moment! With you being so busy, you need to remain practical and be cautious especially when anything new is discussed. Don’t be fooled by someone’s charming words and flattering glances. They’re trying to get around you and once they get your agreement, they may not be half as charming and friendly as they’re being now!
 .
Sagittarius (Nov23/Dec21) It is understandable that you will feel stifled and restricted if other people are trying to force you to sit on any adventurous plans you have been making. Although romance figures highly in your agenda, you aren’t looking for long term commitments, rather a brief encounter that will be great fun while it lasts. Avoid gambling with money or prized possessions and if you run your own business, sit on the temptation to over stretch budgets!
 .
Capricorn (Dec22/Jan20) Where there have been misunderstandings, the way to sort things out is to encourage everyone to be ready to forgive and make a fresh start. Home life will turn out to be more relaxing than it was earlier in the year and you are ready now to put more time aside, to enjoy the company of your family. If you are single and looking for love, there could be the chance of you meeting someone through a religious or charitable organisation.
 .
Aquarius (Jan21/Feb19) How do you know you can trust someone to carry out their promises? The proof of anyone’s good intentions will lie in their actions, not their words. If they’re serious about the commitments they’re making, they will show it through their dedicated efforts. Some people will say what they know you want to hear but they aren’t so big on keeping to their word. As the week draws to a close you’ll know who can be trusted and who can’t!
 .
Pisces (Feb20/Mar20) Your partner or lover could be your greatest friend and ally when they take your side over a matter that means a lot to you. Changes taking place in your relationships will be beneficial; go with your hunches. Someone might fail in an important venture, test or examination. If they’re serious, they will try again. Challenges you take on won’t be easy but the praise and complements coming your way will provide the fuel to keep you feeling inspired.

Mamma Mia! (film)

Plot

On a Greek island called Kalokairi, 20-year-old bride-to-be Sophie Sheridan (Amanda Seyfried) posts three wedding invitations ("I Have a Dream") to three different men. From across the globe, the men set off for the wedding.

Sophie's two bridesmaids and best friends, Ali (Ashley Lilley) and Lisa (Rachel McDowall), arrive the next day. After a reunion, Sophie reveals that she found her mother's diary and learned she has three possible fathers: New York-based Irish architect Sam Carmichael (Pierce Brosnan), Swedish adventurer and writer Bill Andersson (Stellan Skarsgård), and British banker Harry Bright (Colin Firth). She invited them without telling her mother, believing that after she spends time with them she will know who her father is ("Honey, Honey"). Villa owner Donna Sheridan (Meryl Streep) is ecstatic to reunite with her former Dynamos bandmates, wisecracking author Rosie (Julie Walters) and wealthy multiple divorcée Tanya (Christine Baranski), and reveals her bafflements at her daughter's desire to get married. Donna shows the villa, rumored to be built on the legendary fountain of Aphrodite, and explains her precarious finances to Rosie and Tanya ("Money, Money, Money"). The three men arrive, and Sophie smuggles them to their room and explains that she, not her mother, sent the invitations. She begs them to hide so Donna will have a surprise at the wedding: seeing the old friends of whom she "so often" favorably speaks. They overhear Donna working (humming "Fernando") and swear to Sophie they won't reveal her secret.

Donna spies them and is dumbfounded to find herself facing three former lovers she could never forget ("Mamma Mia"), and is adamant that they leave. She confides in Tanya and Rosie ("Chiquitita") a secret she has kept from everyone — she is uncertain which of the three men is Sophie's father. Tanya and Rosie rally her spirits by getting Donna to dance with the female staff and islanders ("Dancing Queen"). Sophie finds the men aboard Bill's yacht, and they sail around Kalokairi ("Our Last Summer") and tell stories of Donna as a carefree girl. Sophie musters up the courage to speak with her fiancé Sky (Dominic Cooper) about her ploy, but loses her nerve. Sky and Sophie sing to each other ("Lay All Your Love on Me"), but are interrupted when Sky is kidnapped for his bachelor party.

At Sophie's hen party, Donna, Tanya, and Rosie perform as Donna and The Dynamos ("Super Trouper"). Sophie is delighted to see her mother rock out, but becomes nervous when the festivities are interrupted by the arrival of Sam, Bill, and Harry. She decides to get each of her three prospective dads alone to talk. While her girlfriends dance with the men ("Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)"), Sophie learns from Bill that Donna received the money to invest in her villa from his great aunt Sofia. Sophie guesses she must be her namesake and Bill is her father. She asks him to give her away and to keep their secret from Donna until the wedding. Sophie's happiness is short-lived as Sam and Harry each tell her they must be her dad and will give her away ("Voulez-Vous"). A shocked Sophie can't tell them the truth and, overwhelmed by the consequences of her actions, faints.

In the morning, Rosie and Tanya reassure Donna they will take care of the men. On Bill's boat, Bill and Harry are about to confide in each other, but are interrupted by Rosie. Donna confronts Sophie in the courtyard, believing Sophie wants the wedding stopped. Sophie says that all she wants is to avoid her mother's mistakes and storms off. An upset Donna is accosted by Sam, concerned about Sophie getting married so young. Donna confronts him and both realize they still have feelings for each other ("SOS"). Down on the beach, Tanya and young Pepper (Philip Michael) continue their flirtations from the previous night ("Does Your Mother Know"). Sophie comes clean to Sky and asks for his help. He reacts angrily to his fiancée's deception and Sophie turns to her mother for support. As Donna helps her daughter dress for the wedding, their rift is healed and Donna reminisces about Sophie's childhood and how quickly she's grown ("Slipping Through My Fingers"). Sophie asks Donna to give her away. As the bridal party walks to the chapel, Sam intercepts Donna and begs her to talk. She reveals the pain she felt over losing him ("The Winner Takes It All").

During the wedding, Donna tells Sophie that her father is present but he could be any of the three candidates, whom Sophie admits to inviting. Sam reveals that although he left to get married, he didn't go through with it and returned, only to find Donna with another man, so he married his former fiancée (and later divorced her). Harry confesses that Donna was the first (and last) woman he loved. The three men concur that they would be happy to be one-third of a father for Sophie. She tells Sky that they should postpone their wedding and travel the world as they have always wanted. Sam suddenly proposes to Donna ("I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do"). She accepts and they are married. At the wedding reception, Sam sings to Donna ("When All Is Said and Done"), which prompts Rosie to make a play for Bill ("Take a Chance on Me"). All the couples present proclaim their love ("Mamma Mia" reprise), as their raucous dancing causes the ground to crack and erupt with water from the fountain of Aphrodite. Sophie and Sky bid farewell to Kalokairi and sail away ("I Have a Dream" reprise).

During the principal credits, Donna, Tanya, and Rosie reprise "Dancing Queen", followed by "Waterloo" with the rest of the cast. Finally, Amanda Seyfried sings "Thank You for the Music" over the end credits.

Plot

When the mutilated body of a young woman is found on a disused railway track in the North of Paris, near La Villette, Captain Laure Berthaud takes the opportunity to restore her image after her involvement in the death of Mustapha Larbi. She quickly thinks the murderer could be a serial killer, and her intuition is confirmed a few days later by the disappearance of a second young woman with the same physical apparence in the same neighbourhood. Time is running out to avoid new victims but the investigation goes badly: Berthaud and her men make mistakes, losing the confidence of their hierarchy, whilst newspaper articles on the so-called "Butcher of la Villette" increase. Moreover, the prestigious Brigade criminelle, led by Commissionner Vincent Brémont, Berthaud's former supervisor when she was a young police intern, now wants to get back the case.

In the meantime at the Palais de Justice, while investigating an ordinary case of a child attacked by a dog in the wealthy suburb of Villedieu, Judge Roban discovers that the mayor may be involved in a bribery scandal. Prosecutor Machard immediately asks Pierre Clément to use his friendship with the judge to spy on him discreetly, in order to prevent a political scandal: the mayor of Villedieu is a personal friend of the President of France. Upon Clément's refusal, Machard is determined to get rid of this unco-operative subordinate. Meanwhile Joséphine Karlsson and Szabo are eventually caught out by their shady transactions when they are shot at in the street by two gangsters.

Main Cast

    * Caroline Proust: Police Captain Laure Berthaud. A skilled police officer who leads an investigation group from the DPJ, she is known for her energy and tenacity but also for her tough not to say borderline methods. Devoted to her work, she is very attached to her men and she would do everything to protect them in case of blunder. While she is quite successful with men, her private life is a mess and she seems unable to build a lasting relationship with someone.

    * Grégory Fitoussi: Deputy Prosecutor Pierre Clément. A young magistrate with a promising career, he believes in his profession and in the integrity of justice. But his success and his righteousness provokes the hostility of his superior, the powerful Republic Prosecutor of Paris. He is close friend with Captain Berthaud and Judge Roban but also, more surprisingly, with Joséphine Karlsson.

    * Philippe Duclos: Judge François Roban. An experienced juge d'instruction, solitary and hardworking, he knows all the tricks of his trade. Often being reproached for his coldness and even cruelty with suspects and witnesses, he attaches a lot of importance to his independence from the executive power. But he is aware that his job has nearly destroyed his life and the people he loved.

    * Thierry Godard: Police Lieutenant Gilles "Gilou" Escoffier. Berthaud's long-time team member, they are practically family. With methods as borderline as his captain's, they often cover each other to escape disciplinary inquiries. He has a long history of drug abuse.

    * Fred Bianconi: Police Lieutenant Frédéric "Tintin" Fromentin. Responsible and reasonable, good in proceedings, he is the stable element of Berthaud's group. He generally disapproves his colleague's methods and therefore he is often torn between staying into legality and not betraying his two friends.

    * Audrey Fleurot: Lawyer Joséphine Karlsson. A clever, beautiful and highly cynical young lawyer, she is extremely ambitious and always looking for cases that will earn her a maximum of fame and money. She finds it exciting to defend monsters and does not hesitate to cross or double-cross to get what she wants. However, her shady dealings often get her into trouble
