TEHROUN opens in Toronto on Friday, July 2nd at the newly launched Carlton Cinemas!
Set in the underworld of Tehran society where everything can be bought and sold, TEHROUN is shot in the cinema vérité-style of a traditional Iranian film, but it also takes a riveting look at the country's capital city, complete with prostitution, child trafficking, drug smuggling, pimps and the Mafia.
Ibrahim (Ali Ebdali) has left his village and family to try his luck in Tehran. He walks through the streets of the big city begging with a newborn baby. He says he's a widower and needs money to look after his child, but it soon becomes clear that the baby is not his, but a stolen baby that that he has rented. Meanwhile, he shares a room with two friends, Fatah and Madjid and is waiting for his pregnant wife to join him. Soon, Ibrahim becomes implicated in the trafficking of newborn babies, and the three men are forced to go deep into the underbelly of the city where their dream turns rapidly into a living nightmare.
