La Reina Del Sur es la decimocuarta novela del autor español Arturo Pérez-Reverte, publicada en 2002. El libro narra la vida de Teresa Mendoza, una mujer mexicana nacida en Culiacán, Sinaloa, que se traslada a vivir a España donde se envuelve en las redes del contrabando y narcotráfico de aquel país. La historia muestra la vida de Teresa, sus deseos, ilusiones y amores e incluso sus negocios ilícitos en su nueva patria sin dejar atrás sus raíces mexicanas.

Trama
La historia comienza en Culiacán cuando Teresa recibe una llamada. Le dicen que su novio, el “Güero” Dávila, ha muerto, por lo que decide huir. Pide ayuda a Epifanio Vargas, padrino de Dávila, quien la envía a Melilla, España para crear una vida nueva. Ahí trabaja en un bar y conoce a un hombre con el cual se relaciona íntimamente, Santiago López Fisterra. Él es un contrabandista de tabaco y hachís entre Marruecos y España, por el Estrecho de Gibraltar, y ella lo empieza a acompañar en sus viajes. Tras un accidente, Fisterra muere, pero Teresa sobrevive y es enviada a prisión.
Aquí conoce a Paty O’Farell, una mujer bisexual que se enamora de ella, quien estaba en prisión por tráfico de drogas. Luego de que ambas salieran de la cárcel, inician un negocio de tráfico de drogas por el estrecho de Gibraltar con negociantes rusos. Gracias a su gran habilidad con los números y a su innovación logra forjar una "empresa" que se transforma en la más exitosa en el tráfico de drogas en el sur de España. Teresa empieza una nueva relación con su contable, Teo Aljarafe, aunque nunca llega a enamorarse. Al descubrir que él facilitaba información de sus negocios al gobierno, decide matarlo. Es entonces cuando se descubre al lector que el “Güero” en realidad era un agente de la policía y que Epifanio lo había mandado matar, al igual que a ella. Regresa a México para hacerlo público y evitar que Vargas se vuelva senador del estado de Sinaloa. Tras evitar un intento de asesinato en Culiacán, adquiere una nueva identidad y desaparece.

This month’s Virgin Atlantic’s favourite destination is Washington D.C., the Capital of the USA and home to the White house.
Washington has so many things to do that anyone travelling there is sure to be entertained throughout their stay. From tours of the three houses of Government, the white house, the Supreme Court and the Capitol building to historic walks and plenty of museums. We must not forget that to visit the White House a request needs to be made in advance through a member of congress! A must visit just to say you’ve been there!!
The day can start by following in the footsteps of the first lady and having breakfast at the Hay-Adams hotel. Take a stroll through Georgetown, Washington’s historic waterfront, plenty of opportunities for shopping in one of its many independently owned boutiques or one of the national shops like J.Crew. Stop for a meal at one of the many local restaurants, probably the best way to end a great day.
Washington is full of history and we are sure there will be something for everyone, visit one of the many museums available and soak up the culture.
