#UK - Heathrow CEO responds to Airports Commission conditions

Heathrow has today announced it will meet and, in most cases, exceed the conditions set out in the Airports Commission’s recommendation for Heathrow expansion.

In July last year, the independent Airports Commission unanimously and unambiguously recommended expanding Heathrow, after a three year, £20 million study into the best option for maintaining the UK’s global aviation hub status.

The IMF issued a report on worldwide corruption, and unsurprisingly noted the way it undermines trust and growth. It claims public sector corruption siphons US$1.5 trillion to US$2 trillion annually from the global economy in bribes and costs far more in stunted economic growth, lost tax revenues and sustained poverty. They did not review private sector corruption.

#EU - Visa-free travel for Turks on hold as #Turkey refuses to budge on anti-terror law

A deal on visa-free travel for Turks within Europe was looking less likely on Wednesday.

The visa-free deal is supposed to be in place by the end of June. However, Turkey has still to meet five of 72 criteria set by the EU, including how it uses its anti-terror legislation.

The EU wants Turkey to change its anti-terrorism laws so that they can't be used to stifle dissent and intimidate journalists. Ankara says they won't change the law as its needed to battle Kurdish militants.
