Britain - London 2012: How the ticket resale process works

The BBC's James Pearce explains how people can try to resell their unwanted London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic tickets.

Those who bought tickets directly from Games organiser Locog will be able to submit their tickets on the 2012 ticketing website until 3 February.

The tickets will be made available online for other customers to purchase during the resale window.

Brazil - Floods force thousands to flee in south-east of country

An entire town in Rio de Janeiro state had to be evacuated after floodwater burst a nearby dam, unleashing a torrent which headed straight for the community.

The floods and mudslides that have hit Brazil's south-east since the start of the year have claimed several lives. Nationwide, more than two million people have been affected.

Syria - Several dead in Damascus blast

State television says a suicide bomber blew himself up at a traffic light in the central district of Miden, where protests have intensified recently against the regime of President Bashar al-Assad.

Footage broadcast by Syrian television appears to suggest a police bus was hit. However most of the victims are thought to be civilians.

Turkey - ex-army chief Ilker Basbug jailed over coup plot

Retired General Ilker Basbug is the highest ranking officer to be caught up in the so-called Ergenekon case, a long-running crackdown on Turkey's once all- powerful military and secularist establishment. He is expected to challenge the decision to jail him pending trial.

Ukraine - Tymoshenko's husband seeks Czech asylum Wife moved to Kharkiv prison

No decision on Oleksander Tymoshenko's application has been taken yet. But a year ago Prague granted asylum to a minister who had served in Yulia Tymoshenko's government, sparking a diplomatic row with Kiev.

The former premier was sentenced to seven years behind bars in October for abuse of office.

A week ago, she was moved from the capital to the eastern town of Kharkiv, despite protests from her supporters.
