The ruling was made by a court in Cairo.

Activists, some of whom demonstrated outside the courthouse, hailed it as a victory over the generals who took control after President Hosni Mubarak was ousted earlier this year.

"Nobody would accept being subjected to such treatment," one demonstrator said.

"This is an indecent assault and a kind of torture, used as a way to pressure the revolution and to pressure women, so we don't speak out."

Israel - opposition leader at anti-extremism rally in the Israeli city of Beit Shemesh

The peaceful protest, supported by Israel's President Shimon Peres, is in response to a spate of incidents in the city west of Jerusalem, where ultra-orthodox Jews are trying to get residents to become more conservative.

Brazil - overtakes UK in economic league table. The world's sixth largest economy with the UK slipping to seventh

http://www.euronews.net/ Brazil has topped the United Kingdom in the World Economic League Table. The British based Centre for Economics and Business Research - the CEBR - said Rio is now the world's sixth largest economy with the UK slipping to seventh.

The South American nation has a population of about 200million more than three times that of the UK.

The country's economy grew by 7.5 percent last year though the government has cut its growth forecast for 2011 to 3.5 percent.

Russia - New deputy prime minister Vladislav Surkov reunited with Medvedev

http://www.euronews.net/ He is stepping out of the shadows from chief strategist at the Kremlin to Russia's new deputy prime minister. But it is unlikely that Vladislav Surkov's job swap, approved by President Dmitry Medvedev, will do anything to appease the opposition.

He is a contentious figure for anti-government protesters, some of whom he has accused of seeking a full-blown revolution.

Surkov is set to be reunited with Medvedev if, as expected, he replaces Vladimir Putin as prime minister.
