Russia - seizes Iran-bound radioactive material from the luggage of an Iranian national bound for Tehran

Sodium-22 is used in medical equipment but the service said it could be obtained only as a result of a nuclear reactor's operations. An investigation is underway.

There was a crackle in the room after London's veto of EU treaty reform proposed by Paris and Berlin.

President Sarkozy weighed his words underscoring the UK's isolation in the agreement reached by 26 of the EU's 27 member countries.

Deputy PM says remarks by French ministers are unacceptable

The Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has told France's prime minister that remarks by his government criticising the UK economy are 'simply unacceptable'.

In the last few days tension has been ratcheted up between the two countries as several members of the French government have drawn outspoken and unflattering comparisons between their economy and that of the UK.

Clashes are taking place in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, after troops moved in to try to remove demonstrators staging a sit-in protest outside the parliament building.

Security forces have reportedly been throwing rocks from the top of buildings, angering the protesters below.

The latest protests began three weeks ago, following the appointment of a new prime minister by the military government.

http://www.euronews.net/ The World Trade Organisation has formally approved Russia's membership after 18 years of wrangling over terms and conditions for joining.

Russia's Economy Minister Elvira Nabiullina said: "For us, the end of these negotiations is not the finish but the start."

Russia was by far the biggest economy outside the 153-member organisation. It now has six months to ratify its membership and will join the global trading club 30 days later.

With Russia as a member, the WTO will account for 97 percent of world trade

Fitch Downgrades Goldman, Citigroup, Among Five Large Banks

Fitch Ratings, the third largest credit rating agency, has downgraded Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Bank of America, BNP Paribas, and Citigroup by one notch in its long-term ratings, citing "increased challenges" in the financial markets.

Fitch also cut long-term ratings on Barclays Plc and Credit Suisse AG by two notches to 'A' from 'AA-'.

In an announcement Fitch stated the financial market challenges the banks face "result from both economic developments as well as a myriad of regulatory changes." Referring to the Citigroup downgrade, the agency cited, "policy momentum" against using taxpayer money to support banks during a crisis.
