Myanmar - Aung San Suu Kyi to stand in by-election

http://www.euronews.net/ Myanmar democracy leader Aung San Suu kyi is to stand as a candidate in an upcoming by-election.

Her announcement comes just three days after her party ended its boycott of the country's political system.

The change of tactics by Suu Kyi could be linked to a forth coming visit by the US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. She will be the highest-ranked American to enter Myanmar, formerly known as Burma, since the 1962 military coup.

http://www.euronews.net/ Police in New York have announced they have successfully foiled a bomb plot and have arrested a man on three terrorist related charges.

The suspect, 27-year-old American Jose Pimentel is said to have been under police surveillance since 2009.

In a press conference the city's Mayor, Michael Bloomberg claimed the suspect had been acting alone but had several targets.

A weekend of clashes between protesters and riot police shows the street remains a battleground for an unfinished revolution.

At least 11 people were reported killed in Cairo's Tahrir Square on Sunday, four shot by live bullets according to medical sources.

Security forces drove demonstrators out of the iconic site, destroying what they had left behind, including a makeshift tent camp.
