Scam Alert (e-mailed to me today)
Just a heads up for everyone regarding the latest in Visa fraud. Royal Bank of Canada received this communication about the newest scam.
This is happening in southern Alberta right now and moving. This one is pretty slick since they provide YOU with all the information, except the one piece they want. Note, the callers do not ask for your card number; they already have it.
This information is worth readi ng. By understanding how the VISA & MasterCard telephone Credit Card Scam works, you'll be better prepared to protect yourself. One of our employees was called on Wednesday from 'VISA', and I was called on Thursday from 'MasterCard'.
The scam works like this:
Person calling says, 'This is (name), and I'm calling from the Security and Fraud Department at VISA. My Badge number is 12460, your card has been flagged for an unusual purchase pattern, and I'm calling to verify. This would be on your VISA card which was iss ued by (name of bank). Did you purchase an Anti-Telemarketing Device for $497.99 from a marketing company based in Arizona ?' When you say 'No', the caller continues with, 'Then we will be issuing a credit to your account. This is a company we have been watching and the charges range from $297 to $497, just under the $500 purchase pattern that flags most cards. Before your next statement, the credit will be sent to (gives you your address), is that correct?'
You say 'yes'.
The caller continues - 'I will be starting a Fraud Investigation. If you have any questions, you should call the 1- 800 number listed on the back of your card (1-800-VISA) and ask for Security. You will need to refer to this Control Number. The caller then gives you a 6 digit number. 'Do you need me to read it again?'
Here's the IMPORTANT part on how the scam works:
The caller then says, 'I need to verify you are in possession of your card'. He'll ask you to 'turn your card over and look for some numbers'.
There are 7 numbers; the first 4 are part of your card number, the last 3 are the Security Numbers that verify you are the possessor of the card.
These are the numbers you sometimes use to make Internet purchases to prove you have the card. The caller will ask you to read the last 3 numbers to him. After you tell the caller the 3 numbers, he'll say, 'That is correct, I just needed to verify that the card has not been lost or stolen, and that you still have your card. Do you have any other questions?'
After you say no, the caller then thanks you and states, 'Don't hesitate to call back if you do', and hangs up. You actually say very little, and they never ask for or tell you the card number.
But after we were called on Wednesday, we called back. Within 20 minutes to ask a question. Are we were glad we did! The REAL VISA Security Department told us it was a scam and in the last 15 minutes a new purchase of $497.99 was charged to our card.
We made a real fraud report and closed the VISA account. VISA is reissuing us a new number. What the scammers want is the 3-digit PIN number on the back of the card. Don't give it to them. Instead, tell t hem you'll call VISA or Master Card directly for verification of their conversation.
The real VISA told us that they will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card! If you give the scammers your 3 Digit PIN Number, you think you're receiving a credit. However, by the time you get your statement you'll see charges for purchases you didn't make, and by then it's almost too late and/or more difficult to actually file a fraud report.
What makes this more remarkable is that on Thursday, I got a call from a 'Jason Richardson of MasterCard' with a Word-for-word repeat of the VISA Scam. This time I didn't let him finish. I hung up! We filed a police report, as instructed by VISA. The police said they are taking several of these reports daily! They also urged us to tell everybody we know that this scam is happening. I dealt with a similar situation this morning, with the caller telling me that $3,097 had been charged to my account for plane tickets to Spain, and so on through the above routine.
It appears that this is a very active scam, and evidently quite successful.
Pass this on to all your family and friends

the other side - we try to be imparial in our attempt to improve the world
1. Why do Hamas militants send missiles into Israel? If we can provide a means to stop this grievance then we might be able to stop these missile attacks
2. What has been the cost of the Israeli military attack on Gaza? Could Israel, with their friendship and contact with the USA not have mounted a defense system along the Northern Gaza border which could knock out the militants missiles before they flew over Israeli territory. We are sure this would have been far most cost effective than the current military operations.
3. The cost of Palestinian life - we cannot put a price on this and the killing of Palestinian civilians in a UN school is unacceptable and like the Balkans war the culprits should be brought before the Criminal Court in the Hague.

Web or sex: Almost half of women prefer internet
In comparison, the number of men who prefer to stay without sex is much lower, according to the survey conducted among 2119 adults conducted by the firm Harris Interactive and sponsored by Intel Corp., the world largest manufacturer of processors.
46% of the women questioned said they preferred to stay two weeks without sex leave their internet access for the same period of time, reports the study called 'The Internet Unit in the economy today. "
Only 30% of men would prefer to forget about intimate relationships to keep cyber.
95% of respondents considered it "very important, important or somewhat important" to have access to the Internet.
Likewise, 65% of respondents preferred the internet access to other expenses such as subscription cable television (39%), eating out (20%), clothing (18%) or belong to a sports club (10 %).
On the other hand, 61% of women said they preferred to leave the TV for two weeks to resign one week online.
Harris Interactive and Intel explained that the poll was conducted from 10 to November. 20 The margin of error was not reported.
They say that the internet is mainly used for surf soft and hardcore porn sites!
If the men are not getting sex are they having to do this?

Get your act together AMERICA!
US authorities announced the arrest Thursday of Bernard Madoff, 70, who allegedly confessed to employees that he had been running a so-called Ponzi scheme, or pyramid fraud, which had collapsed with losses exceeding 50 billion dollars.
There are too many Madoff´s on your continent. If convicted put him away for life.
1. First we had the subprime crisis with Americans purchasing homes that they could not afford to repay the mortgages.
2. We had the problems on Wall Street with executives being paid 500.000.000 whilst their business went to the wall which sent a financial crisis around the world just like a flu epidemic! English banks having to be nationalized or part nationalized as a result!
3. Now we have an American automobile crisis because the American public were not worried about gas guzzling auto´s and are only finally seeing sense when crude nearly hit $150 a barrel. Let us hope that even with crude falling below $50 they have finally seen sense and will give up buying gas guzzlers in favor of the European/Japanese vehicles. Of course part of the problem has been that the cost of fuel has always been about 50% of the price of the same product in Europe.
4. Can the new adminstration really sort the problems out or are we in for more problems in 2009?
I think that the World is tired of hearing your woes America! It really all goes back to good house keeping doesn´t it? Obviously what I have seen America is not capable of it I think

A Photo from the past
Tokio Metropolis - Hutchinson encyclopedia article about Tokio ...
In the far distance is Shinjuku, one of the most important commercial suburbs of Tokyo. Enlarge picture. Shinjuku, a commercial district of Tokyo. ...Well this is what it was like in 1955. When I was serving in Korea we had 2 weeks R&R in Tokyo and much of it was spent in the bar below the Shinjuku railway station :) the joke was that after this we went back to Korea for our R&R!

the incredibility irresponsible George Osborne?
The pound sterling has reached it´s lowest against the dollar and the euro in 13 years!
This remark has fuelled the fall?
Is it not an irresponsible remark in the current market conditions? It obvioulsy is of use to currency speculators! such as George Soros who can have a field day as he did back in the nineties!
It will increase the rate of inflation in the UK as imports will cost more.
Less UK residents will be able to afford a holiday abroad
UK pensioners that moved abroad in the hope that their pension would go further will suffer causing many to consider returning to the UK placing another burden on the services there.
Is George Osborne not a liability to David Cameron?
Should the UK not have entered the Euro?

Spain - A business idea
Pure Biofuels Corp. (PBOF.OB) Inks Agreement to Acquire 14,000 Additional Hectares for Palm Oil Cultivation in Peru
Spain has had too much reliance on the construction industy and I have thought that it should look to new fields to broaden it´s economy. The Pure Biofuels (PBOF.OB) model (from Peru) might be one option, despite the recent dramatic fall in the price of crude. The Southern region of Spain Andalucia might be a good area - for example Cadiz and Huelva. I am publishing the post below in the hope that someone in authority might find it and act on it.
Thursday, January 31st, 2008Pure Biofuels Corp. recently announced they have signed an agreement with Immobiliaria Alpha SAC to purchase 15,000 Hectares of land. In the agreement Pure will acquire 100% of the shares of Immobilaria and transfer 1,000 hectares of land back to the seller after the acquisition is completed, which is currently scheduled for the end of March. The 14,000 hectares to be acquired by Pure is currently empty and deforested and has already undergone improvements including roads, infrastructure and electricity. Closing of the land acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions.
Since 2006, Pure Biofuels Corp. has been proven to be a leader in South America’s rapidly emerging biofuels industry. Their center of operations, the Callao port biodiesel refinery, is expected to be able to process up to 150,000 gallons of biodiesel per day. The refinery is scheduled to be up and running at full capacity by the end of February 2008.
The company currently owns and operates 60,000 hectares of land in Peru, and expects the new 14,000 hectare plantation will provide up to 40% of the necessary feedstock to reach full capacity for those facilities. The company has additional plans for more land acquisitions to satisfy its remaining and future growth needs. Seeds for the new African palms have been ordered and nurseries will be set up within the next 90 days. The first returns from this new property should be expected within the next 24 to 36 months.
Formula One - Something that I did not know
The second most voted for Lewis Hamilton was followed by Felipe Massa, Robert Kubica and Sebastian Vettel. Since then a considerable distance is Kimi Raikkonen and Nick Heidfeld after, Timo Glock, Jarno Trulli and Mark Webber. Those are the top ten positions on a list in which the latter is Nakajima with a single point.

The website is temporarily closed for maintenance. It will be available in the nearest future.
Female customers have been informed about the current situtation and notified about the delay in receiving correspondence.
UA Dreams marriage agency truly appreciates your understanding.
Comment - "Why did the owners of the site not inform Male customers? I feel that they will have lost a lot of credibility with the male customers, who after all are the ones that pay for the translations, and that as a result there may be quite a high fall out rate! They could have advised both the male and female customers could they not? I feel that they need to change their business model and allow a couple to exchange surnames and address, charging maybe an introduction fee for those couples that are mutually agreable. I am sure that clients would continue to utilise the translation service. I really feel sorry for the ladies who may have broken hearts if their men stop writing to them because of what has happened this week. I also think that this site needs to publish the addresses of their offices."

Can we save the world?
When Paulson came out today and stated that his earlier plan to save the western world was not working, he offered up a plan "C" (or is it "D") to relieve pressure on consumer credit, scrapping his earlier effort to buy the value mortgage assets.
No matter what happens or what the next plan is here, are the 3 reasons I believe stocks are headed lower.
* Number one: The trend in most all stocks is down. This trend is likely to persist and last longer than most people imagine.
* Number two: There is no plan. The government is floundering and does not have a plan that is going to work anytime soon.
* Number three: We have a lame-duck president, and nothing is going to happen of any consequence until President-elect Obama is sworn in.
New Video analysis of what could really happen:
http://www.ino.com/info/259/CD16/&dp=0&l=0&campaignid=3
Okay, so let's look at the first problem. Most people trading the market today have had no experience in a prolonged bear market like the one we had in the '70s. That bear market was brutal as it did not let anyone out. Over the course of the early '70s, the bear market basically wore people out to the extent they eventually just threw in the towel. We believe the market is going to make another new low and take out the recent lows that were put in place in early October. Unlike a bull market that constantly needs positive news to drive it higher, a bear market just falls under its own weight.
The second problem we have is that there is no concrete plan in place to rescue the economy. In fact, the domestic and global economic issues are so great that they are overwhelming in scope. The Paulson plan, which is being changed and will continue to change, is a major concern and creates significant uncertainty in the marketplace. Only when we see the new regime take! off ice this coming January will we see any meaningful changes.
The third problem we have is a lame-duck president. This is a major problem for the markets as President-elect Obama can not make any sweeping changes until he is sworn into office. Yes, he may hit the ground running, but the reality is, it's not for over two months from now and a lot can happen to the market in two months. The key levels that everyone is going to be watching for are the recent lows we saw in early October. If these lows are taken out, and I expect they will be, it's going to push this market and everything else down to new lows. It will exacerbate the housing situation, the unemployment situation and most of all, the morale of the country.
Having lived through the bear market of the '70s, I know firsthand how difficult the journey we face is going to be. Now this may seem like a very pessimistic outlook and in some ways it is, however there are always opportunities to make mone! y i n the marketplace. These opportunities may not be in stocks! , it may be in forex or the commodity markets.
So buckle your seatbelt. I think we are in for a bumpy ride...check out the new video analysis:
