The government says some 100,000 people have been displaced.

Russell Grant's Daily Horoscopes for Monday 19th December 2011

.
Aries (Mar21/Apr20) Helping a friend, lover, or business partner with a problem makes you feel proud. You've been blessed with tremendous energy, and can handle virtually any job that comes your way. This ability to thrive under pressure will give your loved one a chance to further their ambitions. Do your best to encourage them to return to college, write a book, or take an overseas trip. You'll be rewarded for your sacrifice later on, when your partner is in a position to help you.
  .
Taurus (Apr21/May21) You're determined to set an ethical tone at work. If you see someone who continually breaks the rules, you must confront them. Explain you will not tolerate their bad behaviour any longer, and threaten to report them to the boss the next time a transgression occurs. Be prepared to act on your ultimatum. The longer this troublemaker continues to defy authority, the harder it will be to get ahead for the principled members of the team.
  .
Gemini (May22/Jun21) A loving partner builds your self esteem. Although you've always been a creative person, you're insecure about your talent. Instead of worrying what others will think of your work, seek to satisfy yourself. If others respond enthusiastically to it, that's great. If not, you'll still have something you feel is beautiful and worthy. Your best friend or lover will encourage you to take an advanced class or study with a respected artisan. You'd be wise to take their advice.
  .
Cancer (Jun22/Jul23) Being able to provide your loved ones with a secure home life is one of your greatest priorities. Fortunately, you will be given a chance to work from home. This will allow you to be present for children and older relatives who need your care and companionship. It may be necessary to hire temporary help so you can attend your professional duties. Still, having you on the premises will make a big difference to your loved ones. Your calm, nurturing presence is very reassuring.
  .
Leo (Jul24/Aug23) You'll be asked to deliver upsetting news to a loved one or lover. Although you hate causing anyone pain, you realise that you're the right person for this job. Sharing this information will require great tact and kindness. That will make all the difference when it comes time to heal from this shock. People find your warmth and generosity very comforting. They know you can be relied upon to stay strong and loyal through a crisis. No wonder you're one of the most valued members of your social circle.
  .
Virgo (Aug24/Sep23) A strong need for financial security causes you to make some changes at home. Preparing your own meals and renting movies will be far less expensive than going out all the time. This change will also promote better relations with your relatives, neighbours, and friends. Host an evening of cards and games. Talking and laughing around the table will be a lot more fun than spending tons of money on glamorous pursuits. Besides, it's easier to relax when you're in comfortable surroundings.
  .
Libra (Sep24/Oct23) You'll have to assert your authority with a wilful worker, student, or youngster. Although you hate playing bad cop, it's important to establish some firm ground rules. Sharing your expertise is rewarding, provided you get the respect you deserve. If you continue to let people walk all over you, it will be impossible to do the work you've been assigned. Are you looking for a job? Explore opportunities related to teaching, writing, and research. You need a position that stimulates your intellect.
  .
Scorpio (Oct24/Nov22) At long last, you're able to work in solitude. If there's anything you hate, it's being interrupted just as you're making progress. Now you've been left to your own devices, you'll be able to be three times as productive. This remarkable achievement will result in an impressive raise. If you're looking for work, seek employment at a government agency, hospital, or economic institution. You'll get a secure spot that pays well and gives you a good amount of freedom.
  .
Sagittarius (Nov23/Dec21) Helping a friend in need is a natural extension of your generous personality. Although you're busy with Christmas festivities, you can take some time out of your schedule to assist with a move or repair project. Although the reasons for this endeavour are tinged in sadness, there's no reason you have to be sombre while you work. Create a festive atmosphere with upbeat music, great food, and copious amounts of drink. Before long, the sadness will lift and everyone will be having fun.
  .
Capricorn (Dec22/Jan20) Use your executive ability to help a friend. Getting a pal a job or secure living position is the best way to improve their circumstances. Refrain from giving a loan. If you're inclined to give them money, put some in an envelope and anonymously slip it into their mailbox. That way, your loved one won't feel pressured to pay it back. Nothing tears a good relationship apart like a sense of financial obligation. Do your best to preserve your friend's pride.
  .
Aquarius (Jan21/Feb19) You're determined to stand on your own two feet. Although you have friends in high places, you'd prefer to get ahead through sheer talent. This may require you to accept a position that is beneath your ability. Happily, your employer will quickly recognise your talent, giving you a series of promotions. Once you reach the top, you'll be able to claim full credit for your success. If your employer offers to pay for your schooling, take advantage of the programme.
  .
Pisces (Feb20/Mar20) An ability to stretch resources makes you a valued member of the team. If you're going on a job interview, emphasise your ability to make sound, economical choices. If there's anything you hate, it's waste. By maximising your employer's holdings, you'll help the company withstand some lean economic times. This will result in an impressive promotion, along with generous perks. It pays to be frugal in an environment like this. Fortunately, you know how to thrive on a tight budget.
