The pen is mightier than the sword - A picture is worth a thousand words
An
Argentine court has sentenced 15 former South American army officers
for their role in crushing dissidents. Many left-wing activists were
kidnapped and killed in Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay and
Bolivia during Operation Condor launched in the 1970s.
Tony
Blair told This Week's World that his foundation's new initiative aims
to tackle Islamist radicalisation through counter-extremism education
programmes. We asked people in the Middle East what they thought of the
former British prime minister and his new initiative - and showed them
his picture.
Russian
President Vladimir Putin has renewed criticism of the deployment of US
missile systems in Europe warning of consequences. Putin made the
comments at a joint press conference alongside the Greek Prime Minister
in Athens. He described the installation of such systems in some
European countries including Poland and Romania as a direct threat to
Russia. Putin warned both countries that they could find themselves in
Russia's sights. He further cautioned Washington against deployment of
its missile shields in Russia’s neighboring countries warning that the
move leaves Moscow with no choice but to retaliate. The Russian
president has already condemned the deployment as a clear violation of
arms treaties signed between Moscow and Washington saying that it would
escalate international tensions.
