USA - White House hit by smoke bomb attack when "Occupy DC" protesters were demonstrating nearbye

http://www.euronews.net/ The White House was locked down on Tuesday night after what appeared to be a smoke bomb was tossed over the fence into the building's compound.

The device was thrown when about 1500 "Occupy DC" protesters were demonstrating near the famous Washington residence.

The Obamas were not present at the time

Turkey - Anger in Istanbul over Hrant Dink murder trial

http://www.euronews.net/ Demonstrators in Istanbul marched in anger over the conviction of a second man for the killing, five years ago of a prominent Turkish-Armenian journalist.

The family of Hrant Dink denounced the verdict, arguing the murder was a political assassination.

Nineteen other defendants, known to be Turkish nationalists were acquitted of being members of a terrorist organisation.

One protester said: "This case is a disaster.Those who committed this organised crime were dealt with as if it was just an ordinary murder."

Yahoo founder Jerry Yang quits

The move is seen as a bid to appease shareholders.

His resignation comes after the company hired former PayPal executive Scott Thomson to be its new CEO.

Yang was criticised for turning down a 37-billion-euro takeover offer from Microsoft in 2008.

Ethiopia - Five foreign tourists killed

http://www.euronews.net/ Gunmen have killed five foreign tourists and seriously injured two others in Ethiopia's remote northern region, according to state television in Addis Ababa. The report said one tourist escaped unharmed.

A western diplomat said German nationals were among those killed.

The Afar region is known to be a haunt of Ethiopian rebels. Bandits and rebels from neighbouring Eritrea, Ethiopia's enemy, are also active in the area.
