http://www.euronews.net/ Former Israeli president Moshe Katsav is due to begin a 7-year jail sentence today after being convicted on two counts of rape.

66-year old Katsav was found guilty a year ago but was allowed to live at home with his wife while he appealed the conviction. The Supreme Court upheld the verdict but he maintains that he is innocent.

66 שנה קצב הישן נמצא אשם לפני כשנה אבל הורשה לגור בבית עם אשתו בעוד הוא ערער על ההרשעה. בית המשפט העליון אישר את פסק הדין אך הוא טוען כי הוא חף מפשע.

The streets of the Portuguese capital Lisbon are normally ablaze with Christmas lights but this year the council has sacrificed them to save 700, 000 euros. And at the Christmas market people are being encouraged to support the local economy, according to manager Enrique Borges:

Synopsis

synopsis
