 The mayor of Saint Martin Vésubie, Henri Giuge, expressed his sadness." This is a tragedy not only for the village, but for the whole of France, for his friends the mountaineers, for his family its horrible.

His fellow villagers are distraught:
"I can't explain it, it is inexcusable, unforgivable, an absolute tragedy," said one man in the market square.

Fresh airstrikes hit ISIL targets in Syria, as new countries consider giving support. France on high alert security alert after ISIL threats (4th video)

Fresh airstrikes have reportedly hit more suspected fighters from the Islamic State militant movement in Syria.

Five strikes are reported near the Iraqi border and others near the Turkish border.

This as reports in Britain say parliament could be recalled as early as Friday to vote on a plan to join airstrikes also taking place in Iraq.

France is on high security alert after threats made by the Islamic State militant movement.

Soldiers are patrolling key sites, as Paris vows to continue its fight against the militants.
