Loja lies in a narrow, barren valley in the Grenada Province of Andalucia, Spain. Loja is an ancient town, dating back as far as the Moors, and now concealing a great range of architectural treasures from throughout the ages. Loja is a wonderfully picturesque town, steeped in Andalucian charm, and filled with monuments from throughout the long history of the area. Outdoor sports thrive in the varied landscapes surrounding Loja, providing the chance to enjoy a wonderfully varied holiday in ‘real’ Spain, with both extreme natural beauty and historical heritage in abundance.
.

Things to do in Loja, Spain

Loja properties are located right on the edge of the Los Intiernos de Loja Natural Monument, a series of beautiful waterfalls carving their way through the limestone valley. There can be few places better than Los Intiernos de Loja for riverside picnics, and with excellent access to the barren landscapes of the Sierra de Loja Mountains, you cannot afford to miss this beautiful region from a Loja property rental. The Sierra Loja are wild and barren, with limestone geology that makes the region a veritable playground for potholers, walkers and cavers.
.
The surrounding countryside is a maze of contradictions. To the east, barren limestone landscapes give way to lush, undulating hills, covered in olive groves and littered with small, atmospheric farmhouses. This side of Loja is a haven for walking, mountain biking and horse riding, all of which thrive from accommodation in Loja. Further into the mountains, the bravest among you can even try paragliding.
.
There is a huge amount to discover within the town itself though. There is a rich Muslim heritage in Loja, having been a Muslim town until it was taken over by Christians in the 14th century. The Islamic Caseron de los Alcaides Cristianos fortress and Alcazaba district provide a wonderful comparison to the lavish temples and elegant, flamboyant palaces, gardens and public buildings which still adorn the town. The huge, 25 spout Fuente de la Mora fountain is certainly worth finding from a Loja apartment or villa too.
.

Places to visit on holiday to Loja, Spain

Further into the countryside of Andalucia is the small town of Illora, which lies along the foot of the Sierra Parapanda. Overlooking the town is an imposing Moorish fortress, precariously positioned at the head of a dramatic gorge. Hugely popular with walkers, Illora is the start of a huge range of walking trails, which emanate from the town, reaching far into the hidden corners of the mountains.
.

Weather in Loja, Spain

During the heat of the day in July and August, temperatures can reach the 40˚C mark, with the hot weather lasting long into the evening. Eating outside on a summer evening is an absolute delight from self catering Loja properties, something which is possible for a huge portion of the year.
.

Travel to Loja, Spain

Reaching a Loja property from the UK is remarkably easy, with Loja located just 35 minutes from both Granada (GRX) and Malaga (AGP) airports, both of which are served by regular flights from the UK. Malaga is by far the larger of the two airports, and it is likely that you will find cheaper flights to Malaga, as well as more options on hire car facilities. Taking a hire car to visit a Loja property is advised, only because of the huge amount to see in the surrounding areas. Public transport to Loja can be arranged from either airport.

Keep your home

Everyone agrees that the housing market needs to stabilize before things can get better.

People are usually made reduntant because governments have not managed the respective exconomies like a prudent housewife would, not because of their work attitude.

Yesterday the Spanish Government extended their partial postponement of mortgages to three years from two for the unemployed and for people who are having difficulty meeting mortgage commitments, the economy ministry said in.

The measure will allow those worst hit by the Spanish economic downturn to postpone part of their mortgage payments for three years.

The government also announced it will extend and make more flexible the loans offered to small and medium sized businesses by state-owned credit agency ICO

By banks repossing houses it brings more properties onto the property market thus bringing house price down placing more families with negative equity, and more risk to the banking system.

The Spanish governments example will mean that the property market will establish a floor sooner and hopefully start to increase in value sooner. It is better for families to pay a mortgage for a few more years than loose their home and all the trauma that goes with it in finding a place to rent and moving all their furniture and belongings.

I don´t know if the English Prime Minister George Brown or the American President Barack Obama have a similar plan? If not I think that it would be worth considering as it is America that led the world into this crisis with their housing problem. Had they had such a scheme in place a few years ago maybe the world may never have got into this mess!

419 Nigerian Scam originates nearer home – Málaga Spain

Fed up with these e-mails we posted a rumor that plain clothes policemen were going into Nigerian Internet Cafes to catch these scammers. You can imagine to our surprise several months later when television broadcast that this had actually happened. Had the Nigerian police seen our posting and acted on it?

We are pleased to see that the Spanish police have arrested a network operating in the Málaga area of Spain, detaining ten members of the gang who had defrauded their victims of 19.000 € in just 3 months.

The crooks had been connected to the internet via the unprotected WiFi connection of their neighbors, so operating from anonymity.

The 'Iran operation' named following the complaint of an Iranian citizen who alerted the police that he had been cheated. The victim received a letter in which he reported that he had been blessed with an award in Spain under an international promotion of the 'Lotteries and Gambling Spanish'. He sent two urgent transfers for a total of 5,000 euros to the so called “Collection Agent”. Once he had sent the money, he lost all contact with the scammer. The investigators tracked the computer connections used by the organization. To their surprise they saw that the vast majority originated from a chalet called Teatinos, occupied by a normal family. The officers searched the surrounding area and noted that in the attached cottage adjacent lived several men of Nigerian origin. Their high life style with no evidence of gainful employment gave them away.

During the past two weeks the police have arrested approximately 400 and 20 Romanians involved in credit card fraud. The Spanish police are pretty effective.

Flying Saucer (Ovni) sighting over Málaga Spain?

I had this e-mail from a friend this morning.

"Last night I woke up at 3:40 to make a bathroom stop. Walked out on my terrace and above the airport, but very high in the sky, was an amazing sight. There was a red glowing object up there about half the size of the moon. At first it appeared to be moving slowly but hen stayed in one place for several minutes. The color was like a fire but a bit redder than that. At first I thought it might be a weather balloon reflecting back the sun, but at 3:40 in the morning, the sky was completely black so there was no sun up there to reflect.

Went into the small room up and grabbed a pair of binoculars. Well they magnified the object but did not aid in my knowledge of what it was. So I put back the binoculars and went out to watch it again. It appeared to be getting smaller and smaller while still staying approximately in the same place. And finally, it just vanished completely. Never before have I seen such a sight and I hope that the newspapers will report today what it was because I am sure that others also must have seen it."

Did anyone else see it?
