It would appear that President Putin tolerated corruption and now moans about the Ukraine owing a debt to his Gazprom. If Petro Poroskenko can undo the Yanukovych era of corruption the Gazprom´s debt can be repaid.

Russia - '100 arrested' at anti-Putin rallies

Published on Mar 5, 2012 by
http://www.euronews.net/ Russian police are said to have detained at least 100 people at protest rallies against Vladimir Putin's election as president.

There were no arrests reported in Moscow's Pushkin Square, where organisers had gained permission to hold a rally and thousands chanted "Russia without Putin".

But others were held elsewhere. Police said they detained about 50 people at an unauthorised protest in Moscow close to the headquarters of the Federal Security Service. Another 50 anti-Putin protesters were seen being arrested at another unofficial rally in St Petersburg.

"Many Russians, especially in Moscow, are not going to accept Vladimir Putin as a legitimate president. And even if Putin survives March and the next two months prior to the inauguration, he's badly wounded, maybe even deadly wounded as a political leader and I have no doubt that he will not survive the next six years," said chess champion-turned-activist Garry Kasparov.

The demonstrators argue the vote was unfairly skewed in Vladimir Putin's favour.

Putin, the current prime minister and former president, won nearly 64 percent of the vote. He says he won a fair and open contest.

In a video of the panel discussion that took place at the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Humlebæk, Denmark, Herta Müller says:

"Look what the Russians are doing to the poor Ukrainians, how they are destabilising and infiltrating Ukraine, how they are destroying this country with their filthy propaganda and their dirty and hypocritical war. It's outrageous, and it's far worse than what we had in our dictatorships back then. It's a big problem. And how this makes me sick! I always imagine that I'm in their country, I used to live in one like it. I would be there, I would have risked as much as the Ukrainians, already for the third time, in order to live another way… And they are punished atrociously. Only because Putin can't accept that the Soviet Union is gone. We had it up to here with the Soviet Union! For decades they ruined our lives in all of Eastern Europe. Putin and his secret service should accept that we want no more of that."

The War in Donbass (also known as the War in Ukraine or War in Eastern Ukraine) is an ongoing armed conflict in the Donbass region of Ukraine. From the beginning of March 2014, demonstrations by pro-Russian and anti-government groups took place in the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts of Ukraine, together commonly called the "Donbass", in the aftermath of the 2014 Ukrainian revolution and the Euromaidan movement. These demonstrations, part of a wider group of concurrent pro-Russian protests across southern and eastern Ukraine, escalated into an armed conflict between the separatist forces of the self-declared Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics, and the Ukrainian government Prior to a change of the top leadership in August, the separatists were largely led by Russian citizens. Russian paramilitaries are reported to make up from 15% to 80% of the combatants.

Putin's 'Human Rights Council' Accidentally Posts Real Crimean Election Results

Yesterday, however, according to a major Ukrainian news site, TSN.ua, the website of the President of Russia’s Council on Civil Society and Human Rights (shortened to President’s Human Rights Council) posted a report that was quickly taken down as if it were toxic radioactive waste. According to this purported report about the March referendum to annex Crimea, the turnout of Crimean voters was only 30 percent. And of these, only half voted for the referendum–meaning only 15 percent of Crimean citizens voted for annexation.

The TSN report does not link to a copy of the cited report. However, there is a report of the Human Rights Council, entitled “Problems of Crimean Residents,” still up on the president-sovet.ru website, which discusses the Council’s estimates of the results of the March 16 referendum. Quoting from that report: “In Crimea, according to various indicators, 50-60% voted for unification with Russia with a voter turnout (yavka) of 30-50%.” This leads to a range of between 15 percent (50% x 30%) and 30 percent (60% x 50%) voting for annexation. The turnout in the Crimean district of Sevastopol, according to the Council, was higher: 50-80%.

Russia - Anti-Putin rally in Moscow ends in more arrests / Россия - против Путина митинг в Москве заканчивается в новые аресты

Published on Mar 10, 2012 by
http://www.euronews.com/ Thousands of people in Russia have again rallied in protest at last weekend's election of Vladimir Putin as president.

But their numbers were far fewer than in previous weeks. Organisers of the main rally in Moscow put the crowd at 25,000, the police said 10,000.

The protesters allege electoral fraud and want to overhaul a system in which Putin's grip on power has become entrenched.

They chanted "time for change" and "Russia without Putin". "12 more years? No thanks!" read one banner.

"The most awful thing that can happen is that we lose heart, that we let this government win finally and say we no longer have a chance," said opposition leader Garry Kasparov, the former chess champion.

"Were these elections? Tell me, were these elections?" cried another protest organiser, Left Front leader Sergei Udaltsov, echoing many slogans at the rally as he addressed the crowd.

"And that man who cried those crocodile tears, can we call him the elected president?" he went on. Vladimir Putin was famously seen wiping his eyes at his victory celebration rally.

"Comrades, it's simple - either they have us for another six years or we have them. I don't want to be had for another six years, I will fight... will you fight?" The crowd shouted "yes" in unison.

Udaltsov's attempt to act on his words, by taking the protest in the direction of Pushkin Square, immediately got him into trouble. He was arrested by waiting police.

The first rally had been sanctioned by the authorities; this impromptu follow-up protest most definitely had not.

Several others, around 20, were also detained. Another 10 were reported to have been held in St Petersburg.

It follows hundreds of arrests a day after the election. Putin has made it clear the authorities will crack down on protests that have no official permission.

Russia - protests in key anti-Putin test 50,000 in Moscow / Россия - протесты в ключевых антипутинской тест 50 000 в Москве

Published on Mar 10, 2012 by
http://www.euronews.com/ Thousands of people have turned out for more protest rallies in Russia against the election of Vladimir Putin as president.

In Moscow activists say up to 50,000 gathered in the city centre - the police say 10,000 - hoping to keep up the momentum over allegations of electoral fraud.

It is a key moment for the opposition, for whom large numbers are essential to keep up the pressure on those in power.

The Moscow rally has been approved by the authorities, but observers say the venue's large size may make numbers look smaller.

International election monitors say the presidential election was weighted in Putin's favour, although Russia's Central Election Commission said there were no serious violations.

Vladimir Putin is preparing for a third term as president after spending the last four years as prime minister.

One opposition leader who was barred from running in the election has said people should be patient in seeking to change a political system dominated by Putin.

Russia - Putin wins Presidential third term hands-down / Россия - Путин выигрывает третий срок президента руки вниз

Published on Mar 5, 2012 by
http://www.euronews.net/ After stepping down for 4 years to get round the Russian constitution, Vladimir Putin has once again been elected President of Russia.

With almost all the votes counted, the 60-year-old has secured the top job with nearly 64 percent of the vote.

The road back to the presidency involved becoming Prime Minister and allowing Dmitry Medvedev to take over. But with that legal hurdle and elections over, Putin is set to serve a six year term and probably a further six after that, say analysts.

"We have shown that our people can tell the difference between a desire for renewal and political provocation that only aims to split our country and to usurp its power," said Putin, at a victory event in Moscow late on Sunday night.

Russia's electoral commission showed that Putin's nearest rival, Communist party leader Gennady Zyuganov, managed just 17 percent of the vote.

Opponents in the presidential race have complained of widespread fraud and are planning protests today in Moscow.

Russia - Demonstrators denounce Russia's political 'tandem' Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and President Dmitry Medvedev

Published on Dec 24, 2011 by
http://www.euronews.net/ Two weeks after the last mass protest in Moscow, protesters are still seething over Russia's two-man leadership.

Giving her name as Daria, one woman accused Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and President Dmitry Medvedev of "openly and unashamedly lying to the people and the Internet community."

"You can show everything on TV," she said to Russia's authorities, "but we see the reality."

Rallies on a smaller scale were held nationwide on Saturday, denouncing the official poll victory of Putin's United Russia party.
