Russell Grant's Daily Horoscopes: Monday 20th June 2011

.
Aries (Mar21/Apr20) Storm clouds hover over your home; take control and protect your privacy. A domestic disagreement will become public knowledge if this comes to a head when neighbours are around. If an argument is inevitable, be sure it is behind closed doors and not in front of anyone who might turn your business into gossip. Be patiently tolerant with someone who is bent on making trouble for you. Stay polite and don't give them the ammunition they need to spread rumours about you.
 .
Taurus (Apr21/May21) You won't ever understand the way an older relative's mind is working, so why try? If you can't agree, say your piece and leave it at that. You don't have to argue over the same topic every time you meet. Change the subject when someone in the family comments on your love life or private business. Being related to you doesn't mean they can tell you what to do. You don't particularly agree with everything they do but you wouldn't try to stop them from doing it!
 .
Gemini (May22/June21) Stop worrying over whether changes being implemented will or won't go well. They're going ahead anyway so you will soon find out. If some plans don't go the way you want, you can always change them in the future. It's not easy to trust another person's judgement when you don't know them very well. As soon as you feel you can rely on those you're working with, you will be more relaxed about doing your own thing and leaving them to it.
 .
Cancer (June22/July23) There are no double meanings in the words others are using so stop imagining this is the case. Occasionally you can be too sensitive for your own good. How can friends, family and colleagues communicate openly if you suspect hidden motives behind their words and actions? Don't think they haven't noticed because it will be clear to them how defensive you are all the time. Once you drop your guard, they will do the same and conversations will flow. Relationships improve when you stop trying to read between the lines!
 .
Leo (July24/Aug23) You've got to stop caring about what other people think even if this might make you seem temporarily selfish. An important decision you have to make concerns your future. Others will do their best to influence your choices. Are you going ahead because it's what they want you to do or will you let a friend's negativity colour your outlook? Find the courage to say what's on your mind even if it goes against what's being expected of you.
 .
Virgo (Aug24/Sept23) Keep your thoughts to yourself and those who are in a position to help will have no idea how imaginative you can be. If you're involved in any form of group project, the best way to contribute will be to reveal what you are thinking. A combined effort to sort out a problem will be amazingly successful. Your tendency towards perfectionism can occasionally attract criticism but today others will have no problem meeting your high standards.
 .
Libra (Sept24/Oct23) Arrangements you've been feeling pessimistic about are now looking considerably more attractive! You're less likely to need reassurance when things start going well. This will give a friend you've been leaning on, a break. You never intended to be a burden on anyone but someone is growing tired of giving you emotional support. You're ready to stand on your own two feet and you're doing this before they say anything that could jeopardise this relationship. Arrange a special treat as a way to say thank you for their past patience and kindness.
 .
Scorpio (Oct24/Nov22) Problems in the family are likely to be linked to a relative you have never got on well with. Comments they make are subtle but you know what they're getting at. You aren't stupid and you know their accusations are being directed at you. This is nothing you can't handle. You've always had a good sense of perspective and this makes you capable of dealing with a wide range of problems satisfactorily. Since they're being devious, you can be cunning too.
 .
Sagittarius (Nov23/Dec21) You're tempted to get rid of items you never use but if this is an impulsive decision, sleep on it. There are ways to maximise space in your house or workplace without throwing anything out. Look at your costs; knocking down walls to improve the layout of your property and to make more space could be worth a consideration. You aren't sure what your housemates or colleagues will make of your ideas; the only way to find out is to talk it over with them.
 .
Capricorn (Dec22/Jan20) You've always been resilient and resourceful and this hasn't gone unnoticed. A challenge you accept will do you a favour bringing your skills to the attention of those who could put more business your way. With you being the one others are depending on, some people are responding to you more positively than ever. You aren't fooled by this sudden show of friendliness but at the same time, if they need you, it isn't in your nature to turn them away.
 .
Aquarius (Jan21/Feb19) Being on friendly terms with the boss or another superior helps you reach quick agreements over new methods. Others will grumble about procedures being introduced to the workplace. They're pulling faces but you might choose to ignore their grumbles. You happen to know an experiment will be successful because you've already tried it out before. Eventually their disapproving remarks will turn into surprise, then murmurs of approval!
 .
Pisces (Feb20/Mar20) Information you have been waiting for is received allowing you to make a crucial breakthrough. Facts that have been kept hidden or secret for years are now revealed; this will make a difference to your plans for the future. Give yourself a chance to assimilate what you have just learned to avoid a knee jerk reaction. If a friend or colleague tries to give advice, don't take this the wrong way. Listen to their suggestions as not only are they sensible but others are looking at a situation with your best interests in mind.

The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008 film)

Plot

In 1928, on an expedition in the snowy mountains of India, a mountaineer encounters a glowing sphere. He touches it and then finds himself awakening after a sudden loss of consciousness, with the sphere now gone and a scar on his hand.
.
In the present day, the United States government hastily assembles a group of scientists, including Princeton professor Dr. Helen Benson (Jennifer Connelly), to formulate a survival plan when it is feared that a large unknown object with a speed of approximately one-tenth the speed of light, is due to impact Manhattan.
.
The object slows down just before impact and is revealed to be a large spherical spaceship, which lands gently in Central Park. A being named Klaatu (Keanu Reeves) emerges from the sphere, around which the military has established a perimeter. Amidst the confusion, Klaatu is shot. A gigantic robot emerges, emitting a sound that temporarily paralyzes humans and disrupts all electrical systems in New York City. Before the robot can take the being back, Klaatu orders it to shut down.
.
While recovering from his injuries, Klaatu takes on the appearance of the man from the opening scene of the film. He informs Regina Jackson (Kathy Bates), the United States Secretary of Defense, that he is a representative of a group of alien races sent to talk to the United Nations. Jackson instead orders that Klaatu be sent to a secure location for investigation. Klaatu manages to escape with the help of Helen, and is pursued by the authorities throughout Newark, New Jersey, and the forested Highlands, with Helen and her stepson, Jacob (Jaden Smith).
.
Meanwhile, the presence of the sphere has caused a worldwide panic. The United States military manages to capture the robot after it thwarts their attempts to destroy the sphere using unmanned aerial vehicles that launch missiles. Klaatu meets with Mr. Wu (James Hong), another alien who has lived on earth for 70 years. Upon confirming humanity's destructive tendencies, Klaatu determines that humans shall be exterminated to ensure that the planet—with its rare ability to sustain complex life—can survive. Mr. Wu decides to stay on Earth, having grown to love humanity. Klaatu orders smaller spheres—hidden on Earth—to begin taking animal species off the planet. Helen drives Klaatu to a forest near a pond. She witnesses Klaatu summoning a sphere that collects various species (evoking Noah's Ark) as Klaatu walks on water
.
Around the planet, the spheres collect other life forms. Helen realizes that Klaatu has decided to exterminate humans. A police officer driving by the pond notices strange activity. He sees Klaatu and recognizes him as the alien. Drawing his gun he confronts Klaatu, who defends himself, forcing Helen's car to kill him. He then revives the officer by laying hands on his head, Lazarus like, and raises the officer from the dead. Helen appeals to him to save humanity.
After Helen witnesses Klaatu walking on water and raising the officer from the dead, she takes Klaatu to the home of Nobel Prize-winning Professor Barnhardt (John Cleese), where they discuss how Klaatu's own species went through a drastic evolution to survive its own star's demise.
.
In meantime, The robot, named "GORT" (Genetically Organized Robotic Technology) by the United States government, is subjected to experiments in an underground facility in Virginia. After previously receiving the order from Klaatu to destroy the earth, it then transforms itself into a swarm of self-replicating insect-like nanites that begin destroying everything in their path including the military facility. The swarm of nanorobotic locusts consumes everything in its path and is now on a path to destroy humankind heading to Central Park where the major sphere is located.
.
After speaking with Professor Barnhardt, Klaatu believes that humans might change their ways. Jacob betrays Klaatu and calls authorities with Klaatu's location. The military captures Helen. Jacob and Klaatu finally become allies and the Secretary Jackson allows Helen to reason with Klaatu. Klaatu becomes convinced of mankind's ability to change, and with the help of Dr. Granier, they head to Central Park and the large sphere to save humanity. Klaatu warns that even if he manages to stop GORT, there will be a price to the human way of life. The nanobot cloud arrives before they can reach the sphere and they hide from it just under a footbridge.
.
After the nanobot cloud arrives in Central Park where Klaatu and Jacob are, and after Jacob is reunited with his mother Helen, it is revealed that Jacob and Helen have been infected by the nanites. She pleads with Klaatu to save Jacob, rather than herself. Klaatu saves both of them by transferring the infection to his own body, then walks through the nanites to the sphere and touches it. His actions cause the sphere to emit a massive pulse that destroys the nanobot cloud, saving humanity, but at the apparent expense of Earth's loss of electrical capability. Klaatu's body, not his spirit, is destroyed in martyrdom to save humanity, and the giant sphere leaves Earth.
