Russell Grant's Daily Horoscopes: Thursday 16th June 2011

.
Aries (Mar21/Apr20) Your work load is a hefty one; use sensible coping strategies to keep on top of it all. Taking a stress leave of absence isn't an option when you are aware of your responsibilities and how much other people are relying on you. You've always welcomed a challenge but the reality these days is some challenges are proving too much for you. If some responsibilities are becoming too heavy a burden to bear, think about delegation. You would miss responsibility badly if it was denied to you.
 .
Taurus (Apr21/May21) Your plans don't tie in with someone you were supposed to be spending the day with. Their objections to your ideas will take you by surprise. For the sake of peace you're inclined to back down and let others have their way. What good will this do? You will only begrudge leaving your own plans aside in favour of something you don't really want to do. Others will sense your reluctance and it will be hardly conducive to a spirit of harmony and cooperation. For this reason, work on a compromise.
 .
Gemini (May22/June21) A team effort will only ever be partially successful if you aren't working with the right people. Someone who requests help is demonstrating they are keen to learn and try harder. If you're working with young people, be sure they aren't being pushed to achieve targets outside their capabilities. Failure can affect their confidence to try similar challenges in the future. Understanding your own and other people's strengths and weaknesses will help make the job easier and more pleasing.
 .
Cancer (June22/July23) You aren't desperate for space and free time for its own sake; you need it to recharge your batteries. You have invested a lot in a group or personal endeavour and you don't intend to give up now. Even so it is absolutely necessary for you to rest. If you can't get it today, plan it so you do get time in the future for relaxation. Don't cram your free time with social and family commitments that put even more pressure on you. Take a moment this evening simply to stare at the stars!
 .
Leo (July24/Aug23) You're disinclined to fall in with other people's wishes and you won't follow others like sheep. You may even be tempted to go off at a tangent and exploit a situation to your own advantage. Someone who is set in their ways will find your behaviour hard to swallow. You won't go along with their ideas just to keep the peace. Your actions will impress others as they start to define who and what you are. You aren't leaving it for society to determine who you ought to be.
 .
Virgo (Aug24/Sept23) You can be a force for change and improvement if that’s the road you want to travel. Working with people who need support and encouragement or campaigning to change attitudes and enhance the environment will all give you that special buzz that comes from knowing you are doing something valuable and worthwhile. Just one word of warning; there are individuals and groups who will try to exploit your generosity, expertise and altruism and that might shatter some of your illusions.
 .
Libra (Sept24/Oct23) No matter how tricky or confusing events are, you will sail through it all with ease. Challenges that stand before you and the success you make of them will make the road you're travelling on more exciting. Notice how you could benefit through new schemes and it will be your enterprise and initiative that will bring positive outcomes. A person with similar ambitions isn't having as much success; they will use devious means to get what they want.
 .
Scorpio (Oct24/Nov22) Take a more balanced view to finances and save yourself a lot of grief. Money could become an obsession as you take things to extremes. You might splash out carelessly without thinking of the consequences or you could refuse to make necessary purchases. Neither approach is sensible. A new monetary page will soon be turned and it will be easier to predict how your financial affairs are going to go. Until then, bide your time but don't do anything foolish.
 .
Sagittarius (Nov23/Dec21) All relationships have their wear and tear but there are things you can do to help keep the ties that bind strong. When you don't agree, instead of shrugging your shoulders and replying 'whatever,' ask whether there might be a way to reach a compromise. Unfulfilled expectations and disappointment with another person's behaviour cause relationships to become frayed around the edges. It's not always about equal amounts of giving and receiving. Occasionally one partner has to put the other person first.
 .
Capricorn (Dec22/Jan20) You're putting too much store on the outcome of a situation which is completely outside your control. What occurs may well have an influence on your future but there is nothing you can do to influence the outcome. What will be, will be. The Sun will go on rising and setting whether you're happy with what occurs or you feel you could have done better. If it doesn't work out this time, your next attempt could be more successful. Life is full of these little successes and failures.
 .
Aquarius (Jan21/Feb19) The veil that has recently been clouding a close relationship is lifted. At last you realise why your partner or a friend has been so secretive. If you like surprises, this is going to be a day that sticks in your memory for a long time to come. If you don't, you may still admit to being secretly delighted by what they have arranged for you. Fate chooses the strangest times to spring its little surprises and today is a classic example. Your fortunes start to take a turn for the better.
 .
Pisces (Feb20/Mar20) You're easily distracted and you aren't always thinking about what you are doing. Because of this, your judgement about what's worth spending cash on may not be at its best. Refrain from making any spur of the moment purchases of a grand scale or you could be left with a lot of explaining to do. Pick the brains of someone who always seems to handle their finances with both flair and success and don't feel guilty about asking all the questions on your mind!

Protesters Clash With Greek Police During Anti-Austerity Demonstration

Associated Press

ATHENS, Greece -- Greek police fired tear gas at groups of youths hurling firebombs on the edge of an anti-austerity rally outside Parliament, where the struggling government on Wednesday was to seek support for new cutbacks to avoid a default that would be disastrous for financial markets.

Riot police had set up a massive security operation in the center of the capital to keep protesters from blockading the Parliament building, where lawmakers were to discuss a new austerity package that will impose tax hikes and spending cuts to 2015.

The protests are the epicenter of a crisis that could end in a disastrous default that would threaten the future of the eurozone and shake financial markets just as the global economy struggles to recover.

Wednesday's violence adds public pressure on the government at a time when Prime Minister George Papandreou also faces an internal party rebellion from within his governing Socialists over the new austerity. But the new bill must be passed if Greece is to continue tapping its rescue loans.
