El 23 de Febrero de 1981, Televisión Española jugó un importante rol social, al captar las imagenes del alzamiento del Coronel Antonio Tejero en el Congreso de los Diputados, en Madrid.

Junto a lo anterior, informó a todos los españoles la posición que adoptaba el Rey Juan Carlos I frente a este acto inconstitucional, mediante la emisión de un mensaje a la nación.
