Police in Spain's North African territory of Ceuta used batons and fired rubber bullets into the air to control crowds, as they moved hundreds of migrants from beaches to a tent camp. Tens of thousands of migrants crossed from neighbouring Morocco to Ceuta in July. At least 100 people died in the attempt. Though most of the migrants went back, several thousand have remained in the Spanish territory.

A secretive US mission to Moscow is raising fresh questions about Washington’s engagement with the Kremlin. A US Air Force aircraft reportedly carrying CIA chief John Ratcliffe landed in Moscow, with no prior announcement or official confirmation from either side. US media reports say Ratcliffe met Russian officials as efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war remain stalled. Washington also reportedly asked Kyiv to temporarily pause strikes during the visit. The mission comes amid rising US-Iran tensions and Russia’s close ties with Tehran. Why was CIA in Moscow? Is Ukraine 'slowly losing' war? | Michael Clarke live Q&A

TV hosts Daniel Tkiie @WorldatStake24 and Sofia Nazarenko and Scott Lucas, professor of international politics, discussed the duration of Russia's war against Ukraine. US Vice President JD Vance asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to halt attacks on oil tankers linked to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium at Russia's Black Sea port of Novorossiysk.
The pipeline carries mainly Kazakh oil with companies linked to U.S. investment firms. Ukraine's compliance was partly influenced by President Zelensky's hopes of obtaining another interceptor for Patriot systems or these licenses to produce Patriot missiles.
What is your reaction to this, and could you provide us with wider context of Ukraine's campaign against Russia's oil tankers and this demand from JD Vance's surprise demand, because JD Vance usually hesitated to actively play any kind of role in Ukraine negotiations?
Professor Scott Lucas was back for The Week That Was, discussing Trump’s bizarre Air Force One escape, his dwindling options in Iran, warning signs for the midterms, the Reflecting Pool saga and Putin’s latest moves on Ukraine.

United Nations Forces, comprised of United Kingdom, Belgium, Luxembourg, Philippines and South Korea troops in the vicinity of the Imjin River fell under direct attack when the Chinese Spring Offensive commenced on 22 April 1951.
The 29th British Independent Infantry Brigade Group, commanded by Brigadier Tom Brody, was under the most severe attack and was eventually surrounded by the enemy. An attempt to reinforce them failed due to harsh terrain and overwhelming enemy power.
The 1st Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel James Carne, bravely held out for more than three days against more than 30,000 Chinese troops. Of the 700 Gloucesters, only 40 men reached safety, the rest were captured or killed by the Chinese. Lt. Col. Carne was held at a Chinese POW Camp in North Korea till after the armistice agreement was signed. He spent 19 months in solitary confinement, and many of his men died due to harsh treatment at the camp.
The British 29th Brigade's brave stand provided UN Forces enough time to re-group and block the Chinese advance onto Seoul, but not without sacrifice, they suffered 1,091 casualties, including 622 of Glosters. The US lost 1,500 men either killed or missing in action, the South Koreans 8,000 and the other UN forces approximately 1,000 men. Chinese casualties were estimated at 70,000.
