Lando Norris described Mercedes’ pace as a “dagger to the heart”, but the Baku street circuit presents a particularly complex picture. Track evolution, grip levels, engine modes and electrical deployment can all have a major influence on lap time — especially around a circuit where straight-line speed and low-speed traction are so critical. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the UN General Assembly “we have crushed Iran’s military”, after dozens of delegates left the chamber and refused to listen to his address. In Washington, US President Donald Trump is hosting Chinese President Xi Jinping, who has asked him to return to the ceasefire agreed with Iran in June. Meanwhile, Saudi-led forces have said the Iran-backed Houthis fired six missiles at two Saudi Arabian cities. And Iran has threatened to paralyse airports in neighbouring countries if they stop commercial Iranian flights in response to US aviation sanctions.
