Growing frustration over Spain’s housing crisis has sparked mass protests. The demonstrations began last month following the eviction of 87-year-old Maricarmen Abascal, who died this week, just two weeks after being forced from her home. The government proposed measures to protect tenants and freeze rents, but parliament rejected them, prompting Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez to call early elections. Sanchez also faces mounting pressure over immigration and corruption investigations. Two recent polls suggest the right-wing People's Party and far-right Vox could secure a combined parliamentary majority. Could protests over Spain’s housing crisis help turn Sanchez’s political fortunes around?
