Over 100,000 Syrian Kurds flee to Turkey to escape ISIL / Poroshenko declares war in east Ukraine "impossible to win by military means alone"

22/9/2014 More than 100,000 Syrian Kurdish refugees have fled to Turkey since Friday to escape the advance of Islamic State militants. Many of those escaping tell of beheadings by the Islamic fighters in order to frighten locals into obedience. One Syrian Kurd said: "I've brought my family here to put them in a secure place. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has been defending a new law, rushed through parliament, which gives limited self-rule and an amnesty to pro-Russian separatists. He says this peace plan is the only way to bring an end to the conflict.
