The sanctions, including a travel ban on top Syrian officials and a freeze on the government's assets were approved by 19 of the 22 members. The Qatari Prime Minister said the move against Syria - who were suspended from the league last week - was an attempt to deal with the issue in house:

وقد وافقت جامعة الدول العربية بفرض عقوبات اقتصادية ضد سوريا في أعقاب شن فيها حملة على المتظاهرين العنيفة.
