It is the Queen’s official birthday, just a day after her husband Prince Phillip reached the grand old age of 90, and she was joined for the Trooping of the Colour in London by her grandson, the Duke of Cambridge, for the first time.
Prince William rode in the red Irish guards uniform he wore at his wedding six weeks ago, while his wife and brother Harry accompanied the Queen in her carriage.
The ceremony dates back to 1748. Every year one of the guards regiments, of which the leading male royals are honorary colonels, has its colours paraded. This year it was the turn of the Scots guards.
