With over 60,000 prostitutes, 2,500 street children, and a third of the population in poverty, has Ukraine emerged from the former Soviet Union to become the illicit sex tourism capital of Europe?
.
During the global financial crisis Ukraine suffered badly. In fact, last year it was among the world's worst economic performers. As if that's not enough, it's now taken on the dubious mantle of the sex capital of Europe. Its becoming a hub for child pornography: they bring in not just women, but 13 or 14-year-old girls - that happens all the time., says hotel security man Sergey. Despite the best efforts of anti-sex-tourism groups such as FEMEN, the illicit industry seems to have become unstoppable and is consuming its poorest citizens by the day. If prostitutes and their pimps were punished harshly, half of them would think twice., says local, Denis.

Hola John.

The video is kind of eye opener. It is a tour made by an Australian reporter guided by a local kick boxer champion. It shows raw scenes about the increasing Ukranian prostitution and the lack of government measures.

It starts at the port of Odessa and then shows the poverty at Kiev. It also shows feminist groups of students dressed in sexy lingerie protesting against sexual tourism, There is an interview to a private hotel security officer telling that there is an average of 40 prostitutes in Kiev, some of them 14-16 years old, per night at his hotel, and there are several hotels in Kiev.

It shows that there is flourishing market in computer in romance/dating agencies acting as internet pimps. The investigation by an australian I consultant leads them to Ukrainian underworld. When trying to expose agencies, the guy gets reprisals and threats.

There are interviews made to prostitutes. Some reveal their income. It shows mobile units running by social workers making quick tests for venereal diseases to prostitutes on the streets.

The more disgusting thing is when it shows street children that many go into drug trafficking and prostitution.

The lack of government action on these matters is remarkable

Whenever you have a chance, take your time and see it.

Hasta pronto,

Pablo.
